Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Neptune 2 Tent - Special Buy:
My first few camping trips with this tent were wonderful. The tent is extremely easy to set up, very comfortable, spacious, and attractive. One nice feature is doors on both sides so that there's no climbing over your buddy during those midnight bathroom trips. It also has the requisite pockets for small gear (glasses, flashlight, etc.) on the inside of the tent.
On trip three, I took it camping to a spot that was effectively a wind tunnel. How strong was the wind? I have no idea. Strong. During the wind storm the tent completely collapsed on me. Nothing was broken, however, the poles simply bent to the wind. My mountaineering buddy and I tried a very cold late-night tie-down without luck. We had to dismantle it and camp in his 1-person tent which stood up to the wind perfectly. His tent has three-pole construction which seems like the key.
If you are a casual camper, you will probably never run into this problem and the tent would suit your purposes well. I have tried it in a pretty heavy rainstorm and it did just fine. However, this tent would not work in more extreme environments.

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Neptune 2 Tent - Special Buy:
My wife and I just came from car camping at Joshua Tree Nat'l Park and this tent worked very well. At night it was very windy and we could feel the rainfly protecting us from the wind.
Easy to put together and the two doors and vestibules are great, meaning that you don't need to step into the other person if you need to go out.
It was very comfortable for the two of us. We are medium/small size people (5 feet 9 inches tall) and we had lots of extra space.
It has two small pockets on opposite corners and a small net that you can attach at the top of the dome. Enough for us to have headlamps or other small items we needed.
For a backpacking trip I can envision that three people will fit in this tent if they are my size or smaller; otherwise it would be too small for three and too heavy to carry for two .

This new Neptune model is the same as the ALPS Taurus, a model ALPS has had since there beginnings as an company.
I trust this tent will be no different. Like I said it is simply a Taurus with a different name "Neptune". An excellent tent and great buy here on REI-outlet! :)

Fantastic tent! I just received mine and took it on a geological expedition into northern idaho. At night the temperatures got down to around freezing, but inside this tent was a good 10-15 deg. warmer. I would rate it 5 stars, but the fly gets too much moisture on it, if I were staying in one place more than one night it wouldn't be a problem, but when you have to break camp every morning it makes the water problematic. I did stay perfectly dry though. Please read full review at: [@]

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Neptune 2 Tent - Special Buy:
Bought this tent and took it out 3 days later in Northern Michigan. It snowed 2 inches and was 25 degrees first night while we camped on an exposed ridge. Wind was really controlled, no moisture or condensation. The tent is a bit heavy but I liked the two vestibules and the way the fly reaches almost all the way to the ground.

The very first trip I used this tent was in Chamberlain basin in the White Clouds. We were expecting a significant storm to roll with high winds. I set this tent up with a couple guylines and it helped keep this tent absolutely sturdy during wind gusts and it held up great and had no leaks when we woke up with 6in of fresh snow the next morning.
I use this tent during the spring when we go morel hunting and during a 9 day hunt with heavy down pours every single day and even on a few days lasting all day long, this tent had absolutely no water seeping in it.
has great ventilation
roomy for 2 people
sturdy
waterproof
so easy to set up

Have used this tent on several trips ranging from campgrounds to backcountry, and overall satisfied with the price I paid. I Have had the tent in large downpoors with no leaks. It is able to fit two adults easily. I did have it in some very strong winds and I thought for sure the tent was going to collapse but after some tinkering, it made it through the night. Overall an average tent at a good price!

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Neptune 2 Tent - Special Buy:
I own tons of camping gear including over ten tents and can't seem to turn down a good deal on a tent. I bought this on Cyber Monday and was very pleased with the tent overall. It is pretty light and easy to set up, has two doors, and a pretty good rain fly. It does not compare to some of the $400-$600 tents that I own, but it cost almost [$] as much. I have not tried it outside in rain yet, but will get lots of chances since I live in Oregon. It looks like the tent would need to be guyed out to make it real secure, but I am going to use it as a back-up backpacking tents for my kids to use, since I don't trust them with my nice stuff yet!
