Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Triton 1.0 Tent - Special Buy:
easy set up lots of fresh air plenty of head room so as not to feel closed in I thought it was free standing like the picture but needs front pegs to hold it down but over all the price is right.....can`t go wrong with this tent....Tombocuba

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Triton 1.0 Tent - Special Buy:
I was looking for a light weight single person tent that packed down small and didn't cost an arm and a leg. This tent wins in every way. It weighs about 3.5 pounds and it actually packs down smaller than when it came. As for price, how can you beat it? Tent is as well constructed as any competitor that costs more than double the price of this little gem.

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Triton 1.0 Tent - Special Buy:
I just took this tent on a four day backpacking trek to Point Reyes, CA and was impressed with its performance. It held up well in some windy, foggy (read wet) weather.
It's not self-supporting and needs to be staked down to stay up. The fly gives good coverage but the vestibule is pretty small. I was able to leave my boots there to keep them dry but would not have been able to leave my pack there.
I was able to bring the pack into the tent with me though and still had room for my Big Agnes sleeping bag and pad. There are two small pockets for small items on the sides.
I'm 5'8" and was not able to sit up completely inside. It was very wet outside with lots of condensation on the fly and when I sat up to change, my head rubbed against the top of the tent and allowed moisture to seep through. I also had a wet footbox on my sleeping bag one morning when I was pushed too far down in the tent.
Set-up was straightforward and easy. One note though, be careful when taking the poles out of the canvas holes because the pole-tips will come out of the poles and it's a pain to put them back in with the bungee cord. I learned to stretch the fabric a little when taking out the poles.
Total weight with the fly, footprint and stakes was 57 ounces.

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Triton 1.0 Tent - Special Buy:
I plan to use this tent on overnight cycling trips so, I was eager to weigh the total packed weight of the tent and footprint. The packed weight of the tent was 3lbs 8.9oz and the footprint was 6.3oz for a total of 3lbs 15.3oz (see fig. 1). In my first attempt it took me only 5 mins. to set this tent up. I love the large mesh sides that will keep the bugs out while giving me great ventilation. There are also two small pockets in the tent to keep small items in. I even noticed a small loop just inside the door that I can hang a light from so that I can read at night. A weatherproof fly provides a vestibule over the door but, I found this really kinda useless because its really only large enough to keep your shoes in before you step into the tent.

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Triton 1.0 Tent - Special Buy:
Perfect tent for backpacking and at such a great price. It is both light (< 4lbs, even with the footprint) and packs down very small. There's more than enough room for both me and my 45 lb dog, and plenty high enough to change clothes or set up your sleeping gear comfortably. Lots of nice features like pockets on both sides and a loop to hang your lantern. Set up couldn't get any easier - 10 minutes tops. Couldn't ask for a better backpacking tent.
