Glide through streets or fly across the countryside, the Marin Lombard bike is a do-it-all steed that easily works as a commuter or tourer and features cyclocross-inspired geometry and disc brakes.

  • 6061 aluminum frame features hydroformed top and down tubes to increase strength without adding weight; shaped seatstays and chainstays improve ride quality
  • Truvativ Touro 3.0 triple crankset turns an 8-speed cassette for 24 gears capable of handling hills, plateaus and cityscapes with ease
  • Shimano derailleurs provide responsive shifting; STI shifters are ergonomically shaped and intuitive to use
  • Tektro Lyra mechanical disc brakes supply commanding stopping power no matter the terrain or weather with 160mm front and 140mm rear rotors
  • Maxxis Overdrive tires feature stout puncture protection to deter flats and keep you rolling along
  • Eyelets let you set the Lombard up with fenders or rack (sold separately)
  • Specs are subject to change

After its initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. Contact your nearest REI bike shop for details and an appointment for this important service.

Comments about Marin Lombard Bike - 2010:

I hereby submit the first review of this bike anywhere on the internet. After many weeks of research, I decided to order this bike from REI.com - I doubt you'll find it anywhere in stock to see in person (maybe in California) - I sure didn't. [...] it was put together pretty well - I think that the front wheel was rubbing a little against the brake caliper, but I didn't have it long enough to have that looked into.First impression: Beautiful bike. I had fenders put on at REI, so there's plenty of room, but a rack would have been a little tricky. I think I could have gotten a rear rack to fit with a little creativity. Geometry is nice, aggressive, but not race.Ride: Fast and stiff. Very stiff. I'm a novice, so maybe my idea of stiff is different than yours, but the aluminum lived up to it's reputation as very unforgiving. I got the bike for urban commuting with some light trails (90% pavement, bike paths, sidewalks). Uneven pavement, potholes, etc. killed my arms. Very nice on smoothish asphalt/concrete, though. The bike is cyclocross-inspired, but definitely slanted toward pavement. I had some trouble getting up steep grass/dirt/mud trails - mostly due to relatively slick tires. Tires are 700x35c with a little more aggressive tread than road tires, but not as rugged as cyclocross tires. I liked the kevlar tires, though - would be great for most commutes, I'd think.Gearing is very good. Like I said, I'm a novice, so I would probably have wanted 1-3 lower gears than this bike has for steeper hills. Again, should be great for most commutes. The bike swallowed up most of the hills here in Austin.Really, my only problem with this bike is that it didn't fit me. I'm 5'5", and apparently I have a short inseam even for that height, and extra small, which is a "50 inch", gave me negative standover clearance. Like -2 inches. Ouch. I wanted to keep it anyway, I liked it that much, but every expert I talked to said no way.I ended up going with a Gary Fisher Utopia (hybrid bike). Fits me better, a little softer with a front fork suspension, and a little lower gearing. The GF bike is a little slower, probably due to the slightly wider tires and the front suspension, but it will suit me a little better than the Lombard.

Comments about Marin Lombard Bike - 2010:

I have 150 miles on this bike now. I use it to get around town, so it gets up and down curbs, over roots, etc.

I like the riding position. comfortable and easy to get power when you need it. Brakes are awesome.

The only drawback are the shifting components. I don't like the shifters. tough to change gears when your hands are on the drop bars and they don't seem responsive or smooth. I will upgrade these in the future.

Put a rack on the back to carry more stuff and overall am very happy with this bike.
