The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Scarpa Mont Blanc GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's:
I'm hesitant to say these boots were anything less than average because I admit that some of the issues I experienced might fall into the 'not fit properly' category, but given the lengths I went to in order to try and get them to perform I still find myself unhappy with them.
I purchased these boots in the spring of 2012 in anticipation of a mountaineering trip to the Cascades later that summer.
To break them in, I used the boots for approximately 60 miles of heavy hill training with a backpack weighted to 60-75 lbs. Part of that training consisted of French technique and American technique up ski jump hills in order to simulate normal glacier pitch.
During that time I felt like the boots were adequate though not quite as burly as I would have expected for the money I paid. The boots were also extremely prone to wetness and were difficult to dry out.
I then took the boots to Washington and Oregon for climbs up Baker, Hood and Adams over a week and a half in July. I immediately determined that the boots were inadequate for the rigors of actual glacier travel due to what I believe are several design problems.
The most significant is that the footbed has a yellow synthetic plate that is not sufficiently rounded on the edges. It cut into the insole of my foot. On the first climb, by the time I had gone 3 hours up the Easton glacier on Baker, both of my feet were severely bruised, blistered and cut. This effect only worsened throughout the trip despite attempts to use other insole pads and superfeet etc.
The second issue is that the tongue is constructed in a way that led to a great deal of friction and I developed a serious instance of tongue slap on both ankles. Attempts at various lacings and padding with moleskin made no difference.
Perhaps less significantly, I found that the boots had good drip on ice and snow but buttered off rock and especially wet rock too easily.
In general, I found that under actual mountaineering conditions the boots lacked the support necessary.
For the price paid I was seriously disappointed. While I think these are a quality boot I would not recommend them for someone engaging in actual technical travel.

other than some training ruins in the snow, purchased these for an attempt on shasta. my feet stayed warm and dry the entire time. I did at the advice of my guide add an extra layer of waterproofing before the ascent. never had a problem prior to that, or after. worked well with crampons. no complaints.Lacing system worked well to fine tune fit.

I wear an 11 1/2 4E shoe so finding a good mountaineering boot has been a 4 year adventure in foot pain management. Most people who climb don't weigh 260lbs like myself so they don't make shoes that are wide enough. I bought a 12 1/2 to add room for socks and it works great. The only other boots that come close are Vasaque because they make some of the shoes in wide. I'm loving them. I just came back from Alaska and hicking the Chugach Range outside of Eagle River in -20 and my feet stayed toasty the entire time.

Comments about Scarpa Mont Blanc GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's:
Since it is my first pair of mountaineering boots I will admit that my review is lacking as a comparative study of other similar boots.
But, I will say that this is the first pair of boots where my feet have stayed dry during the entire weekend of winter camping/mountaineering; through wet to freezing conditions, with light and heavy snow, ice and hardpack. Usually I am suffering because of overheating or because snow/water sneaks in.
They are supportive and sturdy, yet comfortable and just roomy enough that my feet don't feel constricted. I haven't blistered yet and I wore them out of the box for a 7 hour hike, carrying my previous winter boots in anticipation of changing out of the new ones.
I've enjoyed a number of weekend treks since getting these boots and they just get more comfortable as I break them in a bit more each time. No complaints. Thanks to the REI staff who helped me make a solid choice.

Comments about Scarpa Mont Blanc GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's:
I've been climbing for about 15 yrs now and have had everything from old school leather to expedition plastic boots and without a doubt these are by far the best boots I've owned. A few hrs of break in is all it took and off I went, not a blister or soar spot. A little warm for late summer ascents here in the Northwest but oh well. As long as you find a proper fit you will not be disappointed.
Service and delivery comments:
I ordered the size that I thought would fit as every other boot I've had in the past was. When I got it it was a full size to small. REI was great to work with, their flagship store in Seattle held multiple sizes for me to try on when I had the opportunity. Exchange was easy.

Comments about Scarpa Mont Blanc GTX Mountaineering Boots - Men's:
I put this boots on a big trip for the first run 11 miles right out of the box. My hike started on gravel: then went to sand, mud, technical rock then deep snow. The boots had excellent grip, they can edge on just the slightest lip of rock and climb excellent. Easy to front point in the ice and extremely stable on all the terrain I hit. Very stable and stiff. I have to say they performed flawlessly.
Now for the cons; These boots are NOT water proof at all, even after 2 coats of Nikwax. I hiked in sleet all day then hiked in wet snow for the rest of the day and my feet were completely soaked and cold! The boots are not very warm either. For the fit, for such a stiff boot not to bad. I did get a major blister on my right foot but that foot is a little off so I am hoping the boots will break in soon so it is too soon to judge.
I would recommend them

This boot performs very well under a variety of conditions. Like all boots, the boot is only as good as the fit. It is a shame that some people don't understand that in order to have a piece of gear perform properly it must fit your foot properly. I have had great experiences with Scarpa customer service and typically use these boots for alpine climbs and moderate waterfall ice (I use phantom guides for more intense ice).

I used this ice climbing WI 3-4 at the Sandstone Ice Fest this fall, and they performed great! I have wide feet (D-widtch) and they fit like a glove. I only wish that they were a little lighter, but compared with some of the other boots I've tried in the past (Boreal Cerro Torre and La Sportiva Trango Extreme Evo), these are the best fitting by far.
Service and delivery comments:
Delivery was prompt and boots were in excellent condition.

Excellent mountaineering boot. I used them on Rainier & Adams (summer ascents). Feet were warm and comfortable the whole time. No hot spots/blisters and I usually have issues. Waterproofing is good - no wet feet.
