My friend has the REI version of this mug which she raves about. When I went online to get myself one, I noticed this cheaper alternative. It's cheaper for a reason. There is no way to completely close the mug--there is no closure over the sipping area like the REI version.
Also, once you start to get to the last 4 ounces or so of your drink, the mug leaks because you have to tip it more and the lid is not as secure as it should be.
Overall a great idea, but the REI version seems to have done a much better job executing.

The mug is a good size (holds enough liquid and still fits into a cup holder when needed). Unfortunately, it did not hold up well when cleaned. I followed the washing instructions (top rack dishwasher safe) and used a non-abrasive, typical dishwasher soap. After being cleaned just once, the metal clip part of the mug handle turned a darker gray/blackish color and left a black residue on my hands whenever I touched it. This happened after a second wash as well.
