The Scott Speedster S30 road bike boasts a compact drivetrain and a lightweight 7005 aluminum frame for efficient, economical performance on training rides, centuries or everyday riding.

Double-butted 7005 aluminum frame with hydroformed chainstays efficiently transfers pedaling power to the drivetrain while offering great handling performance
Carbon fork helps keep weight to a minimum while absorbing energy-draining road vibrations
Truvativ Touro compact cranks drive a SRAM 12-26 cassette for a range of 19 gears for attacks on the climbs and hammer fests on the flats
Shimano 105 rear derailleur and Tiagra front derailleur and shift levers deliver dependable, responsive shifting
Wheelset includes Scott Team front/rear hubs, Alex Race 28 Aero Profile rims and Continental Ultra Sport 700x23 tires for a smooth, nimble ride
Features quality Scott Road handlebar, stem and saddle; pedals are not included and are sold separately
Fender compatible (sold separately)

After its initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. When I ride to work, I like to ride fast, and this bike stands up to it. A few days after buying the Speedster 50 (also reviewed that one), I traded it in for this model. I found significant differences in the components - 4 steps up the Shimano line in the rear derailleur!! If you're looking to get a good ride in, and you don't want to spend a ton of coin, this is your best bet for sure. A great, lightweight frame, 105/Tiagra components, carbon fork... a great starter bike for someone who likes to make the best of every ride they take, but aren't quite sure they're ready to invest in a high end bicycle.

A friend gave me this good advice (which I validated myself): consider Tiagra the effective bottom of the Shimano line and don't go below. You'll be satisfied with your decision, I promise.

This is my first serious bike and I love it! I ride mostly around Seattle and occacionally around Lake Wasington. I have no complaints. Great entry level for someone looking to get serious about cycling.
