Comments about Scott CR1 Comp Compact Bike - 2010:
Although I have not ridden top of the line bikes to have a comparison, for me, this bike is pretty darn good. It is light, just 17 pounds or so, and fast, although I haven't a speedometer on this bike yet, judging from my other bike, I have probably done near 40 mph many a time. I've done 30-32 on my Trek 520, averaging 20 or so. The seat is very comfortable, I hardly notice I am sitting on it, whereas my other bike I had to get a Brooks saddle, but I think the Scott saddle is a tad better, which surprised me. I rode it home in a huge downpour the other day, and had no problems with handling or braking. It rode very well. I use the other bike to commute to work most days, and this one for more recreational, although I do commute with the Scott also. I prefer the Scott on windy days, it just gets me there faster and with a little less effort. A couple of gripes I have is 1: the front shifter to go to the larger gear up front has to be pushed quite far, and twice, to get the gear chain to change, I would think that better components would not have as much force needed? This is probably normal, but if I have to change quickly, it's not going to happen as it does take several seconds to get the chain to move up, and 2: there is a slight separation of the handle bar tape, where one loop is sliding off or creating a gap in the middle of the handle. Not too big a deal, I don't think it will get any worse.
You can feel the bumps in the road, but then, if you lived in Oklahoma, with all the pot holes and cracks, you'd feel them on any bike, so this isn't really a gripe, but just a comment; meaning, it doesn't smooth them out like the web site says it should. Overall, I really enjoy riding this bike, but I sometimes wish it was a little faster. For what I do, commuting or just riding about town or to the bank, it is a great bike. As a matter of fact, while riding this morning, I was quite thrilled about the turning of the bike, it has a smooth, quick turning that just felt right.
