The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Asolo Moran GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
The boot is very comfortable and light, but the hard heel is dangerous. If you hit a rock at just the right angle, you'll "almost" twist your ankle. Also, if you are hiking on wet rock, you will slip and fall. I do not recommend these boots for steep and wet conditions. [...]

Comments about Asolo Moran GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
These are great boots. I've worn them almost every day for over 4 months and have put in over 500 miles in these guys. I'm a scouter and plan to wear them to Philmont. They really didn't need to be broken-in much, they are extremely light-weight, do fine in snow and rain; worked out great on extended strenuous hikes (ie: Old Rag). I haven't had even one blister, but I almost always wear hiking socks.
The only problem I've had is the shoe laces wore out, possibly because of the metal eye loops ... as others said, I'd bring an extra pair of laces on an extended trip.
This model is an improvement over last-year's as they have a pull-loop on the back that you can get your finger in.

Comments about Asolo Moran GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
Ok, this is a full circle review. Bought a pair of these Moran GTX in May. From the moment I put them on, they fit like a glove. Wore them around the house, town and even got a 4 hour hike (no pack) completed w them (up and down, but not steep elevation) and loved every part of them! That is until about an hour into my backpacking trip this the following week-end. Ended up w a heavier than desired pack (50+ lbs) and I don't know if THAT made the difference or if it was because of the pitch of our ascent (high stepping and steep hiking), but within 2 hours of our hike, it began to feel like a marble-sized rock was lodged behind my R achilles tendon. No rock was to be found. However, the sensation periodically continued. Soon, periodic steps would lead to an actual *twang* sensation on my achilles (like hitting it with a physicians rubber mallet), lending me to wince and give-way to the pain. I had to adjust my gate as to not cause the twang! It sucked! By the time we hit our camp after 6 hours of hiking, my achilles was painful to the touch. I took some arnica, changed shoes (cheap, lightweight amphibian Sketchers I brought along for water) and got by with no sensation on my achilles. That is until I tried to put the Asolo's back on. NO WAY!! There was no way I could wear those things and hike! So I was stuck for 2 days, including my descent, to wearing my $19 Sketchers! Amazing, they held up perfectly but all the sand and crud that got in made for a distracted hike and a few more blisters than I like, since they pretty much required NO socks (it was the SOCKS that gave me blisters) So even though my Asolo's SEEMED to fit well, wore well on less-than-strenuous hikes, and kept my feet dry as a bone (not even sweaty!), they sure did twang my achilles to the point where I was very worried I'd rupture my tendon! A look at the boot's heel box indicates a pretty tall heel support going UP the outside of the boots, behind the achilles. This is what killed me! It flexes RIGHT on your achilles at the point where the kevlar ends and the "upper" begins. My left achilles did NOT succumb to this discomfort. I'm SOOOOO bummed b/c not only did I LOVE my Asolo's, 1) it really put a damper on my trip, 2) forced me to pack these huge boots in my pack 3) got me VERY gun-shy about getting another pair of boots b/c if I can be THIS sure of a shoe and have it back-fire on me, how can I assure myself of my NEXT pair, when the time comes to put it to the test. I returned these and I'd be REALLY cautious about recommending this boot because of that kevlar heal cup (which I was told was their "new" invention this year). Regarding the laces, I've seen reviews that say they wear down quickly. I'll attest to that. Mine showed considerable wear in just 2 weeks.

I am impressed with these boots. Got them and two days later did 20 mile hike on the Connecticut AT. I was surprised that I did not get a single blister. The boots still need to be broken in some more but they are on their way. I really dig how light weight these boots are, but still have a ton of ankle support. These were my first pair of Asolo's and I will buy more if they continue to make a boot like this. I would reccommend this boot to anyone. Good luck finding a boot for yourself.

These feel fantastic right out of the box & after a 20K hike. Traction is great. They smell good too. When they're new anyway... They're a bit pricey, but that's what you get when order the newest thing. I'll be back next year to comment on how well they wear. But for now they're great.

Comments about Asolo Moran GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
I bought these despite reading about the reviews stating that the laces wear quickly. They are a very sturdy boot, very well made, and I'm sure would support a 40 to 50 pound pack with no issues. I did replace the flimsy, worthless insoles with superfeet insoles, and they are very supportive now. Now the bad. In order to break them in, I wore them to work for 4 days. I work retail (management), and spend a lot of time on my feet, but nothing excessive. By the fifth day I had to go back to REI because the laces had shredded to the point of breaking. That's right, the laces in a [$] boot lasted 4 days. The nice folks at REI gave me a pair of their laces for free, and told me that they are much better. I guess we'll see about that. They are the same exact color/ pattern, but seem thicker. They are nice boots, but for the price I shouldn't have to replace the laces after just 4 days. If you buy them, make sure to buy different laces.

These boots are great except for the lace issues. My laces wore thru after 3 months of light use. The laces wear under the lower metal "eyelet" so it is hard to detect. I am not an avid hiker and had not put more than 20 miles on these boots before the laces wore completely thru. I am not sure if they are cheap laces or there is an issue with the eyelet design.

Bought these a week before climbing Mount Whitney. My Last Asolo's from 1999 wore out. I went with them again and glad I did. Snow dumped on Whitney the week before we went so slush, Snow, Water, Ice not a drop touch my feet. My feet were in the boots for 24-Hours 3:45AM to 4:00 AM the next day and not a blister or hot spot. Like I said, These boots rock. I read some reviews about laces…News Flash "Laces wear out!"

Comments about Asolo Moran GTX Hiking Boots - Men's:
Have covered at least 100 miles in these boots so far including a trek up Mt Washington and numerous day hikes over varied terrain including wet conditions and lots o rocks. And on a few occassions carrying a 50lb+ pack that included my toddler! After breaking in, the boots are so comfortable that I just do not notice them. They have performed well on rock scrambles and boulder hops.
I purchased a half size larger than my usual shoe size. Since I am prone to feet challenges, I did upgrade the insoles. Have not had a blister, toe nails issues, or aching arches caused by these boots.
As other reviewers have commented, I have noticed the laces wearing sooner that I would have expected. Still have not had to replace the laces though, and easy and inexpensive enough to carry an extra pair laces on long hikes.
