An alternative to a road bike

Comments about Cannondale Quick 3 Bike - 2010:

This is my weekend fun bike. I typically go for rides on bike trails in good weather. As an older cyclist, I do not want to be full out on a road bike. I like the riding position of the Quick, it is perfect for me. I also like being upright for the visibility. Third, you can put a lot of gear on this bike, multiple bottle and racks.
Biggest surprise though is I thought I would also get a carbon road bike to add to my stable but really don't see the point. The components on this bike are good enough that I wouldn't really get that much improvement going up to a $2000+ carbon bike, except for maybe brakes and tires. The tires are the one thing you will probably change, maybe rims, if you need a lot more traction. But you can put almost anything on this bike, there is plenty of room for experimentation.

I bought this bike not knowing what I wanted but it is pretty amazing that I ended up with a perfect fit. Most riders don't think about this type of bike, but they should because the riding position is very natural and the controls end up in an intuitive place. I never think about the bike because it is second nature, and that gives me time to think about where I am going.
