Comments about Raleigh Detour 4.5 Step-Through Women's Bike - 2010:
I have used the 2009 version about seven miles daily for almost a year and am very satisfied. I am very fond of the step-through configuration-- no need to swing your leg over a bar. The gears have worked perfectly, no slipping, can go up a steep hill. The seat is reasonably comfortable (for me I tip it up very slightly; and I always keep it covered with a plastic bag in case of rain). The flat handlebar grips feel nice. The bike has no shock absorber bouncing in the front fork, which is good--it means you can mount a front wire basket for carrying things. The brakes have been reliable. The tires seem thick and sturdy, no flats yet. My only complaints are that the bike is a bit heavy when lifting onto a bike carrier, and it seems not to fit some carriers; and the "shock absorber" in the seat post is a joke which just oozes a bit of grease and does not absorb shocks.

Comments about Raleigh Detour 4.5 Step-Through Women's Bike - 2010:
Like the previous reviewer, I have the 2009 version of this bike. I have owned it for about a year and have been biking my commute and riding recreationally on bike trails.
This has been a great bike for me. I hadn't ridden a bike since I was a kid and was looking for something comfortable and fun and dependable and this bike has fit the bill. It's responsive and gets pretty good speed and has been good to ride in all kinds of weather and road conditions. The tires are extremely durable - haven't gotten a flat yet despite riding through plenty of street debris. I have found that the way the frame is configured makes riding with good posture quite easy and intuitive.
The frame is a little on the big and heavy side but I can still haul it up stairs so it's not too bad. I do recommend replacing the seat, which is bulky (oh, the chafing!!!!) and not as shock absorbing as you would think.
Overall, I highly recommend if you are looking for a reliable, comfortable bike that will encourage you to get on it as often as possible. I'm glad to see that REI is carrying this model this year.

Comments about Raleigh Detour 4.5 Step-Through Women's Bike - 2010:
I have owned several Raleigh bikes. I can carry the 4.5 up and down subway stairs - I'm 4'10" and in my mid 50's. I rode the Tour De Queens and the NYC Century ride on this bike as well as using it for my daily commute. This bike really filled the bill when I thought I might have to stop riding due to the joint pain in my arms form my old bike. The 4.5 took the pain out. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the seat. I plan to change it for a slimmer, more cut away style.
