The Raleigh Talus 8.0 hardtail mountain bike offers up nimble handling, a hard-hitting 100mm suspension fork with lockout and a dependable Shimano drivetrain for excellent singletrack performance.

  • Butted aluminum frame features a formed downtube for excellent power transfer, durability and handling performance; machined headtube improves strength
  • SR Suntour XCR suspension fork delivers 100mm of travel to smooth out rough trails; suspension can be locked out when not needed
  • Shimano 24-speed drivetrain features responsive Deore Shadow and Acera derailleurs; Alivio trigger shifters deliver snappy, precise shifts
  • Avid BB5 mechanical disc brakes ensure powerful stopping power when you need it, even in the sloppiest of trail conditions
  • Weinmann XM260 rims, Joytech hubs and Geax AKA tires keep you rolling along confidently
  • Avenir cockpit and matching gold anodization on rims, headset and seatpost clamp round out the details
  • Specs are subject to change

After its initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. Contact your nearest REI bike shop for details and an appointment for this important service.

Comments about Raleigh Talus 8.0 Bike - 2010:

I ride this bike pretty hard up here in AK. If you are looking for a good all-purpose bike, then this is a great starting ponit. First off, it's hardtail construction allows one to easily hit the pavement without sacrificing too much wasted power. It has average/sub-average components which are excellent for the casual user but will get you by if you are a serious trail and XC rider (minus the plastic pedals). I have probably put around 600-700 miles on mine in the last two months and no serious complaints. Typically my riding is pretty rugged singletrack hiking trails with a few serious downhills. I do commute on it as well. I find it works great for my purposes. Only real issues I have hit at this point: brake rotors tend to be more fussy than normal disc brakes when removing/reinstalling tires; plastic pedals (enough said); Lockout suspension not easy to get back to fully locked after serious trail usage. Don't let those issues scare you off though, it is really an excellent bike for the money. It requires only a few better components to nudge this bike up a peg or two in quality.
