The Cannondale Synapse 5 road bike blurs the lines between comfort, speed and great handling, resulting in an all-around ride that'll keep you comfortable on centuries and training rides.

Constructed of lightweight 6061-T6 aluminum, the frame geometry is designed to promote stable handling and enhance comfort
Carbon fork, shaped chainstays and slightly bent seatstays employ Synapse Active Vibration Elimination (S.A.V.E.) technology to effectively damp road vibration
FSA Omega compact crankset drives a Shimano 105 group for seamless shifts across the 20 gear combinations, leaving you to crank away as you please
Tektro R538 dual-pivot caliper brakes provide smooth, controlled speed management
Lightweight, responsive Shimano wheels are outfitted with Vittoria Zaffiro Pro Slick tires for low rolling resistance and great handling
Cockpit is outfitted with Cannondale goodies, including a carbon-wrapped seatpost that's topped with a Prologo Kappa Pas saddle

After its initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. Ok first of all I do not own the 2010 model. I have a black 2009 Aulm Synapse 5 which I must say I like the color of the paint job much better. The only difference to last years and this years besides the color is the tire and seat. I still have my stock seat and after much adjusting still have no problems with it. I love this bike! Its got descent components with the 105s and I really light the compact crank. I used this bike for a 172 mile 3 day ride over three mountain passes. I really wanted a carbon fiber frame and was looking at the scott cr1 but decided it was to expensive for a 18 speed with so so components. The hour glass seat stays really do help the bum with the rough roads. I have upgraded to an ultegra compact crank (replacing the heavy fsa crank), ultegra front detailer, and new tires. Overall I would recommend this bike to anyone who is entering the road bike world that wants a reliable comfortable bike that is well built. Oh year it has a great paint job on it also.
