Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Drift Bike Shoes - Men's:
This is my first cycling shoe and I love them. It is extremely well ventilated. I suppose this can be a pro or con (air circulation - pro; mud/rain - con). The velcro is simple enough to use and they are easily put on and removed. They seem quite sturdy/rigid alos. I wear a 10.5US and picked up a 45 size shoe which seems right on, sizewise. I have only worn them on my road bike so far but I'm glad I picked up these "MTB" shoes instead of "road" shoes!

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Drift Bike Shoes - Men's:
Broke these in on a three day backcountry mountain bike trip thru Uncompahgre National Forest. Maybe not one of my brightest ideas but my old shoes, not good for hike-a-bike. These were okay for walking except for all the little stones and debris allowed into the shoe because the tongue isn't full across under the straps. And maybe they're a little low cut round the ankle. So they're great for places without dirt, stones or stuff usually found on mountain bike trails.
Would not recommend for mtb. I only use them on the road now.

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Drift Bike Shoes - Men's:
I rode with classic road bike shoes since the late 70s. I decided to go clipless for a while after a knee problem so I picked these shoes up since they had nice soles with a bit of grip. I am extremely happy with these shoes. They are comfortable, with just a bit of padding, so walking to my office after a commute is fine and the soles aren't slippery on concrete or even tile (in our office atrium). They are very well ventilated, with slight gaps between the tongue and sides, so probably not optimal for wet weather. The three Velcro straps keep the shoes stable without pressure on the top of the foot. Highly recommended.

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Drift Bike Shoes - Men's:
Great MTB shoes so far! I have been using these daily for about a month now. Soles are rigid enough for me and the velcro straps hold very nicely. These are really nicely ventilated so they breathe extremely well.
I really have no complaints as of yet. These feel great on the bike and are comfortable to walk in. Keep in mind (as previous reviewer indicated) that there's a gap between the tongue and the upper on both sides, so this would be an issue in damp environments. I ride in AZ so no prob there, also done some hike-a-bike (though not too much) and have not had any issues with debris entering the shoe.

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Drift Bike Shoes - Men's:
This is a great shoe if you know what you are buying. This is not something for a hardcore winter rider as it is extremely open. That being said I have done some serious mud riding and have had little to no debris getting inside the shoe even though it is very open. The shoes wash VERY easily, a quick hosing is often more than adequate, and they dry quickly which is good when you are trying to avoid blisters on a wet ride. I had a friend who tried them and said he thought they were a little narrow, but my foot is pretty standard and I think they fit like a glove. Unlike some previous reviews I have had no problems with the straps whatsoever, it is true that they are perpetually bent but this has never affected my ability to tighten them to perfection.

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Drift Bike Shoes - Men's:
There are several things wrong with this shoe. The soles are REALLY soft for clip in pedals. I could feel the connection points of the peddle under the shoe, which has never happened to me with any other bike shoe. This caused pressure points which became very uncomfortable after just a few miles.
Also, the straps have a very acute bend that are permanently kinked into the strap. This made the shoes very hard to tighten. I thought they would 'un-kink' a little as time went on, but they did not. This meant I could never get the shoes adjusted properly.
The shoes are well ventilated, but ultimately I ended up returning these.

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Drift Bike Shoes - Men's:
I am returning mine for an exchange. I love the shoes but one of the velcro straps is bad. It just doesn't stay. I noticed it immediately but I thought it would fluff up. Instead it has gotten worse and comes off at the slightest touch which can be very dangerous while riding. I haven't used them that much, but it's gotten beyond tolerable. The shoes are very light, but stiff enough to pull on. They are very well ventilated for even Miami weather. I hope my exchange will satisfy my velcro needs. If you get these and the velcro seems iffy, just send them back, it doesn't get better.
