With his old sleeping bag, he would slide off the pad, the pad would be found upended the next morning and our son would be on the ground, shivering and in a nasty mood all day (no sleep). This bag solves that! The pad slips into a sleeve sewn into the bottom of the bag, making the bag and pad one unit. He can even roll over in the bag and the pad still stays under him. Great bag! Light enough that he even caries it in his pack (as a 7 year old/2nd grader). Why buy a separate bag/pad if they won't stay together?

My 7 year old just joined our local Cub Scout Den - and had a camping trip in early October. We are in the Southern US so not exterme conditions by any means. I wanted something that was warm and comfortable for him, but let's be honest - he is not backpacking at this point so weight and pack size was not a criteria for us. This bag matched up with a BA air pad offered him a great comfortable first camping experience. The temps got down to the low 40's. We had a big day of activity - by 9pm sitting at the camp fire he turned to me and said, "I think I want to go to sleep now". We returned to our REI Half Dome 4 (which was another great purchase) and he changed into a fresh long sleeve t-shirt, underware, and some warm socks and jumped in his bag and within 5 minutes I could tell he was asleep. I woke a couple of times through the night and checked on him and he was sleeping as well as if he was in his bed at home. He was clearly plenty warm - and again, granted we did not push the 'temp limits' of the rating - nor as casual campers do I see us doing this any time soon. The bag seems well made - he loves the bright colors, and I anticipate many great trips with this bag. In fact, the last 2 nights he has slept in the bag on the floor in his room at home! We will be buying another one of these for 'little brother' this Christmas as he nears the age of joining scouting as well.
