Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc Wind Gore-Tex Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
Took these back after wearing them on the trail only one time. Reason: the eyelet ripped out when I was adjusting my laces. When I took them back, I was told by the clerk that my pair wasn't the first to have this issue. I am giving Merrell another chance as I switched them out for the Siren. So far those have lasted two hikes, but they feel a little big to me.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc Wind Gore-Tex Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
I researched and researched before buying these shoes. I am just getting into hiking and wanted to make sure I purchased a shoe that was waterproof, comfortable, not too heavy and easy to break in. Most of all I wanted to buy a pair of shoes that was going to last a long time since I was shelling out a lot of money.
I bought these Merrells yesterday, went home, put them on and wore them around the house to make sure I got a good fit. I was surprised how comfortable they are and looking forward to wearing them to work the next day and a day hike this weekend. Then the lace loop broke when I was tying up to go to work.
I'm going to take them back and try one more pair. That was the great thing about the REI associate that helped me pick out the shoes, she assured me that if they weren't right I could bring them back.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc Wind Gore-Tex Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
After trying the Merrel Moab (very comfortable) and losing a toenail or two due to poor fit, I decided to try a more expensive shoe. Bob in the REI shoe department helped me get the right size shoe. The Chameleon provides a snug secure feel and prevents my foot from sliding forward on the downhill. They did not need any break in, but I have had to return two pair of Chameleons over a 6 week period. The lugs on the first pair broke/wore off after about 25 miles.
Like other reviewers, the lace loop on the second pair broke after only one hike. I exchanged them (thanks REI) and wore the 3rd pair on a 26 mile hike in the Smokies. So far they have held up, but my feet felt a little bruised after 16 miles on the rocky trail - I think the outside stabilizer is a little too narrow for my bony foot. I will see how long these last, but will probably not buy another pair of Merrels. Unfortunately, "Made in China" does not mean "Made to last"

I purchased these hiking boots for a trip to Yosemite. I wore them lightly to break them in before the trip, but found I didn't need to. No blisters or sore spots. Wore these boots on the Vernal Falls hike which is deemed "streneous" with over 600 wet granite steps. Great traction, feet stayed dry. Like the light weight of the shoe and still had good ventalation. Glad I made this purchase.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc Wind Gore-Tex Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
I have the size six and think this is a good shoe. It's lightweight enough for everyday wear, but provides traction in the Washignton rain and also on the hiking trail. However, with most socks the toe box is too tight. Going up half a size was too big a shoe. So I kept the 6 and used a shoe stretcher. Much more comfortable now.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc Wind Gore-Tex Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
The previous generation Chameleon 3 in almost all models has a leather tongue…this generation is either a mistake or Merrell went cheap with the nylon strip! Not only does it not distribute force across the arch during downhill descents but the tongue rotates!

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc Wind Gore-Tex Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
These shoes were great when I wore them daily to 'break' them in. Comfortable, light, dry on wet trails and park walks.
Then I wore them on a four day backpack trip in New Zealand. First day was fine, but by day two, we were in the Alpine section with the backpacks and this shoe just was not right for that. There was definitely no cushion and the soles of my feet were in agony. For the remainder of the trip - the descent over two days - my Teva sandals rescued me!
Great shoes for mild hikes and walks (stays dry, fits well, really comfortable) but go for real boots if you mean to work them.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc Wind Gore-Tex Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
As soon as I saw this shoe on the shelf I knew this was a shoe for me. I'm very particular about a shoe because I have flat feet, not extremely flat but I've never had a shoe that feet me this well, in width, arch, especially the arch. Shoes are such a personal thing, and this one is for me, and I want another pair before they disappear. That always happens to me, as soon as I find something I like it is discontinued. I use these shoes for errands, and walking, so I can't speak about a long hike. I use a hiking boot for hikes, but these are great, and nice looking without bulk, streamline. My husband loves the way they look on me. Haven't had a lace problem yet, had for a while. Love'em.

I like to hike using the trails at East Bay regional parks. Past knee replacement keeps me on trails and away from really steep hills. I love these shoes for hiking on dirt and pave trails. Can't really review them for rugged terrain. Very light with lots of support.

Comments about Merrell Chameleon Arc Wind Gore-Tex Cross-Training Shoes - Women's:
These shoes are pretty great. They are true to size, comfortable, did not cause blisters, slightly heavier than I would like but not too bad. My only complaint is that they are wayy too hot if it's not super cold out. I wore them in the fall and my feet got so hot I just wanted to take the shoes off! I guess the waterproofing causes the fabric to be non-breathable (?). Great for snow and cold weather though!
