Comments about CamelBak The Don Hydration Pack - 100 oz.:
I really wanted to like this pack. I ride all mountain and I prefer to wear a cross country helmet for climbs, and a full face helmet and pads for descents. The Don features a helmet holder and pad straps, so I bought it to replace my Camelbak Rim Runner (a great day hiking pack). The helmet holder works ok, although the straps are a bit more complicated than should be necessary. The leg pad straps on the bottom of the pack work, but they are just adjustable loops rather than straps that can be unbuckled. The internal organization of the pack is quite good, with plenty of well sized pockets.
If it weren't for the design of the water bladder pocket the pack would be a solid 3 star product. Unfortunately, the bladder pocket is too small, so when you put a full 100 oz. bladder in there and zip it up, the back of the pack bows out. It's like strapping a pole to your back. Uncomfortable when the pack's empty, with a full load including a helmet, pads, repair gear, etc., it would be pure torture on the trail.
I ended up returning mine and buying a Dakine Nomad instead -- excellent pack, it's everything The Don should have been, and substantially less expensive, too.
