Comments about Black Diamond First Strike Junior Trekking Poles - Pair:

Finally.....a piece of equipment that grows with your child. The one thing that you will not have to replace every year as they grow older.
Fun too! My nephew loves the snake graphic and how it "eats" the animals as you adjust it.
They are super strong poles too and incredibly durable.
My nephew ends up playing with them a lot which is a great distraction sometimes......the down side is he keeps playing with them after we are done hiking, in the car, in the house.......I have to literally pry them from him sometimes.
Just like my Black Diamond poles.

Comments about Black Diamond First Strike Junior Trekking Poles - Pair:

I hike in the backcountry, trek in the Himalayas and am a backcountry splitboarder. I bought these poles for my last trek in the Himalayas and was very happy with their performance. I'm 62.5 inches tall and about 130 pounds.

I love the smaller handgrips, as the adult ones are a bit too large for me. They are much lighter they are than adult poles. They still feature the flicklocks as in the adult version, which was one of the main selling features for me. They have never failed on me and I've put them through some pretty harsh conditions, including hiking with a very heavy pack.

The only negative I can think of is they froze up in very cold conditions (below 25F°) so can be challenging to collapse in those temps.

The graphics are fun!! In addition to the number markings, they have pictures of animals. On my last trek in Tibet, a trekking mate nicknamed them dino-sticks :)

If you are taller than 63", heavier than about 135 pounds, or like your poles longer than average, they probably won't work. I use them fully extended.

I have not used my bigger poles since purchasing these last year.
Wonderful solution to cutting weight on your gear! Love them!

Comments about Black Diamond First Strike Junior Trekking Poles - Pair:

Took these poles on a day hike, everything was great, noted how the grip with perfect and the wrist straps synched perfectly. I'm a young woman, but I tend to buy youth trek poles because I'm only 110lbs and more importantly, only 5'1''. I was reassured that there is NO weight-bearing difference between youth and adult. On the way down from my hike, slipped on some ice and put my poles down to arrest my fall, and the entire pole bent 45 degrees. It didn't snap off at the lock, considering I had it very close to the "stop" length, the entire lower shaft bent like a twig and I was left with only one pole for the rest of the hike. I expect this from cheaper brands, but I've never been so disappointed with Black Diamond before in my life!
