The women's Arc'teryx Beta SL is a great all-around jacket ideal for hikers, bikers and those who require lightweight , packable storm protection.

With a trim-fitting Drop Hood™ and low handwarmer pockets, the Beta SL is a great choice if you're not intending to use a helmet or harness
2.5-layer Gore-Tex® PacLite® is engineered specifically to be light, packable and more breathable than other 2- or 3-layer Gore-Tex fabrics
A waterproof membrane is laminated to the shell fabric and then covered by a thin, durable protective coating made of an oleophobic (oil-hating) substance
Lack of need for a separate liner allows fabric to be light and compact; combines durable wind- and waterproofness with exceptional breathability
Micro seam allowances increase breathability and suppleness, and save weight; all seams are sealed for complete protection
Laminated, watertight front zipper features an inner laminated draft flap; chin guard protects skin
Features watertight laminated pocket zippers, laminated hem drawcord tunnel and laminated, die-cut rip-and-stick wrist closures
Gusseted underarms ensure unhindered movement and let jacket remain in place when arms are raised
Droptail hemline is higher in front for mobility and a bit longer in back for extra coverage and protection

I love this jacket! I purchased it in Sunshine which is a really pretty yellow color. I had read reviews that stated that the fit was too small and that people who were Small/Mediums had to buy a large. I am a large (size 12) and purchased a large--it fits perfectly. There is not room for tons of bulk underneath, but a t-shirt and fleece fit no problem. It also feels more breathable than the REI Precip, which feels sticky to me. Because I bought it on sale for [$], I thought it was worth the price--I don't know that I could justify spending [$] on it. I have not personally tested how waterproof it is yet, but have friends who went on a 10 day hike in the Alps with me with two days of a lot of rain, and they said their Arcteryx jackets kept them completely dry.

I finally decided to spend the money and buy this jacket. My REI dividend helped my swallow the price of buying such a spendy lightweight jacket. I just love this jacket and only have one regret. I wish I would have spent the extra $40 and bought the jacket with the armpit vents. I get hot in this jacket. I usually like to wear my jackets fully zipped but I find I have to wear this one unzipped a lot around town. Out on the trails or traveling when it's colder the REI revelcloud vest and a t-shirt are perfect under this jacket (warmth and fit). The other problem is that the pockets are hard to get to when hiking and wearing the REI flash pack 18. I bought this in Lapis and it seems brighter in person compared to the pic online. I love the color. This is a great rain jacket to have while living in the Pacific Northwest.
