The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Osprey Aether 60 Pack:
Just getting into the hiking/backpacking arena and I spent many hours at REI trying on several different packs with different suspension/padding styles, and this one was the most comfortable for me. I LOVE the custom molded hipbelt, it just makes a comfortable pack that much better (pack weighed down by 35 lbs, I was dancing about the store for 30 min very comfortably).
This thing's very adjustable, the shoulder straps can be moved up and down to custom fit your torso and the hipbelt can be custom molded to your hips in store.
It has lots and lots of compression points (half a dozen or more). The lower side compressors can be routed under the side mesh pockets, so that you can get your water bottle out without having to release the straps. The thing can be stripped down and compressed into a day pack.
The zippers are nice and easy to open, especially with the oversize loops for the zipper pulls. You can access the bag from the bottom, middle and top, making this really easy to load/unload.
The only thing I wish they would've added is a pocket or two on the hipbelt, for things like chapstick and whatnot, but hey, I suppose that's what pant pockets are for.
Not sure how helpful a beginner's review is, but its the first one for this product, so I hope it gets you to consider this bag.

Comments about Osprey Aether 60 Pack:
Let me start off that while I enjoy comfort, I am more of a comfort minimalist - bringing only what I think I really need but still being relatively comfortable the entire trip. I'm also a student and rarely splurge on the ultralight type gear. This normally puts me at a warmer weather 3-day trip core load of just under 25 pounds including this pack, full tent (Half Dome 2) with footprint and fly, sleeping bag/pad, and cookware/stove/fuel, clothes, and other essentials. Basically, everything but food and water. My usual hiking partner has asthma and this limits her to no more than 20 lbs as of now so I generally carry the kitchen stuff and shelter for both of us.
So, the good:
This pack is a dream. 13 miles in a day with 40+ pounds and I had no hotspots or stiffness and I haven't even had the waistbelt molded yet. School schedules limit me to 3-day weekends and the occasional 4-day stretch so I cannot comment on how well this would do for extended trips (though I will be taking one in August to the Sierras) but for a weekender pack, this is a real winner.
The back is well-ventilated for being flat (i.e. no mesh as with some others) and I find this a great benefit to my smaller Osprey packs that have the mesh airflow design that arches into the pack (sucking up space).
The straps are perfectly padded - not too much (like North Face) but still enough to keep you comfortable with a full load.
Now, the one bad thing (bad enough to lose a star):
Pockets. There are only three (two that are easy to get to) pockets on the outside and the zippered pouch on the top. I love my Osprey Stratos 24 for dayhikes and the waistbelt pockets are perfect for energy bars and a headlamp but in this pack, I have to put nearly everything in the top zippered pouch and I hate that all my stuff is bouncing around in there. This was one major plus for the REI pack I previously had in that there were pockets galore.

Comments about Osprey Aether 60 Pack:
I am preparing for a thru-hike of the AT for next year and my biggest project was finding a great pack. I started out this summer with a 2-night trip in the White Mountains with the Opsrey Atmos. The shoulder padding gave me horrible bruises on my clavicles which was enough for me to ditch the pack and turn away from Opsrey although I liked the other features of the pack.
After a summer of searching I thought I might want the Arc'teryx Axios, but they don't have exchangeable hipbelts (I am 6'1'' so I need a Large pack but the hipbelt starts at 37''....not smart seeing as most hikers are on the thinner side). Gregory's were too heavy and I didn't want anything super-ultralite as I will shave off ounces elsewhere. I want a pack with good suspension and padding.
I finally somehow came back to Osprey after swearing them off for horrible padding and tried out the Aether 60 (large) on a 33 mile loop in the Pemigewasset Wilderness of the Whites (on the AT). Our first day was 14-miles and i LOVED this pack! Great padding and suspension and superb access and compression features.
We actually met some northbounders at our shelter that night who had the Ariel (woman's version) and had nothing but good things to say about it. I have been on a few more trips since and I am still head over heels for this pack. I just need to switch the hipbelt to medium, which REI said they would do.
Overall:
*Carries amazingly with any amount of packed gear due to great suspension as well as the compression straps.
*Detachable top portion was GREAT for a day-hike from Chimney Pond around Mount Katahdin loop. We even rigged our trekking poles to it while we scrambled. Also, the compartment is easy to access over-head when attached to pack while hiking
*Sleeping back compartment and J-access zipper are phenomenal for packing
I will write another review while on the AT or after next year!

Comments about Osprey Aether 60 Pack:
After owning Kelty, Deuter, and Gregory packs, the Aether is my favorite. I've used it for backpacking in every season, carrying rock gear up to a climb, and its the best piece of travel equipment even when I'm not traveling outdoors. Definitely the most comfortable pack I've ever owned, the simplest to deal with, complete non-hassle and I've found it to be as durable as my old Gregory expedition pack. Very happy I picked this pack.

Comments about Osprey Aether 60 Pack:
I bought this pack so I could carry more when I take less experienced backpackers on a trip. I have a 48L that I usually use, but it just didn't have the space I needed when others didn't have the stamina to carry their load.
This pack is 2 lbs heavier than my 48L, but it makes up for it with an awesome suspension. It literally makes 40lbs feel like 30lbs.
The Pros: Pretty light for a 60L pack. The suspension is truly stupendous. Great adjustments to customize the fit just for you. The pack space is very adjustable. The straps and buckles make it easy to collapse it down to 35L or expand to max. Easy access to top, middle, or bottom. Zipper loops instead of tabs. Super comfortable. I recommend taking it on a short day hike at first so you can adjust the fit. Great add-ons, and extras. The trekking pole holder is my favorite extra.
Cons: No pockets on the hip belt. You can sew some on, but it seems like this is a HUGE oversight from a company that makes such great packs. No rain cover. I think EVERY pack you buy should come with a rain cover as standard. It's something you need that shouldn't cost 1/3 the price of your pack...
I use this pack more than I use my 48L simply because it's more comfortable. My 48L has been delegated to back-up use for those I take with me that don't have a good pack.

I only carried the pack six miles but it handled 52lbs quite well. Traded it for a Baltoro to get a couple extra pockets.

Comments about Osprey Aether 60 Pack:
Amazing pack. Has enough pockets and straps for everything you desire to attach and or put inside the pack. Padding is great and very comfortable on the trails after miles of hiking. Allows for good side-to-side movement while pack is on. The only downside is the small water pouches on the side. Smaller water bottles are fine in them but larger ones require a bit more effort to get in and out. This is a perfect pack for those who want help lightening their loads. Being a smaller pack it is usually used for weekend trips but can easily be used for longer trips. For longer trips the less space will help you pack only the essentials and light weight items. As for weight of the pack itself, I find it to be a lot lighter than other options of the same volume. Osprey has always made great packs, this is another. Also specs weights are much higher than they really are.

Comments about Osprey Aether 60 Pack:
Excellent Pack. I have always been a gregory lover and recently moved over to Osprey. Being a road cyclist less padding is more comfortable on long trips. The straps and padding might seem weak but they conform very well and almost no hotspots. All the features are awesome especially the hiking pole holder when the poles are not needed. My biggest gripe is the top compartment. I would like to see some options for dividers or as least one zippered/ velcro pocket. Anything you put op there is jumbled together and slides around. If its open while walking you will likely get rained on with whatever is in the top. So be prepared to put items in baggies that you dont want jumbled around (ex batteries, change, keys)
Handled 45lbs great and prolly could do 55lbs no prob.
