I LOVE this pack. I almost bought the men's since I am a very tall female with an athletic frame and also wanted the tiny bit more space it offers. I'm glad I picked this or it would have allowed me to overpack :) it fits my boyish-female frame well also. I go on extended day hikes and it fits all that I need, and I like the less-is-more approach. The +10 option gies you a little leway when you go a bit beyond the 65. I was a little apprehensive about the seemingly-fragile buckles, but I've beat the ish out of this pack and it loves me right back :) I haven't been out in too much inclement weather, but it seems to be alright with the rain. Like any pack, just buy a duckback/pack cover and waterproof stuff sacks to save yourself the greif. If it had double hip zip pockets instead of a single, and that were JUST slightly larger then it could fit more useful things. The ventilation on the back isn't so great, however, the sweat does dry off quickly in decent conditions. If these two things didn't occur, then I'd give it a 5-star rating, no doubt.
I love this pack! The fit is incredible, to the point that I can barely tell I'm wearing it! With other big packs I've used, my body starts to hurt after a few miles, but this one really holds weight well and conforms in all the right places for a snug and stable fit. This pack is super light yet durable. It packs easily and is fairly simple in compartment design. If you're someone who wants a ton of pockets, this may not be the pack for you. If you want simple, light, and sleek... GET IT! I've used this pack for packpacking trips in both the summer and winter. It's big enough for multi-day excursions but not so big that you'll bring the sink by accident and regret it on day 2. I'm pretty average height for a woman and the Deuter SL packs all fit me extremely well. I would recommend them to all women... plus, you get a cute little yellow flower that doubles as a hair tie!
I was getting ready to go on my first backpacking adventure and spent hours trying on backpacks at the store (definitely must do this) and tried on literally every pack in my price range (under $200). This pack was by far the most comfortable one out there. The weight was evenly distributed and had no pressure points at all. The best part is that when I showed up to meet the group for our trip, two other girls had the exact same pack on. Obviously I had made a good choice. This bag is very basic, but I found that comfort and capacity outweighed all the gadgets the other bags had. I can't wait to get out there and use it again.
Previous backpacking trips found me with blisters on my hip bones and clavicle bones. After extensive in-store testing, I bought the Deuter. I'm petite (5'5, 125 lbs)and boney, and found this fit the best with loads over 30lbs. In Yosemite's John Muir trail over three days of switchbacks, it didn't let me down. No bruising or blisters. It was very comfortable, padded, and the compartment divisions worked very well (especially with a bear canister). When I began aching in the shoulders toward the end (I'm not that fit), plenty of readjustments helped keep me comfortable. In short, I really love this bag and I honestly think it's the best one out there.
I got a little crazy and TESTED this pack out with a thru hike of the Long Trail in Vermont after being fitted by a fantastic REI employee. I went to the store with the intention of buying the REI flash but that pack did not fit me properly since I have a short torso and since wasn't adjustable the sales rep suggested I try this pack. It's highly adjustable, in the shoulders, waist, and back. I wore it with all my gear and up to 10 days of food for 273 miles and was never sore. Never - - not my hips or my shoulders. This pack is great! I have always heard good things about Deuter and may never buy another brand pack!
I bought this pack for my GF for her birthday and she loves it. I tried a few times and I can't wait for my MH Direttissima to wear off or tear (like that's going to happen) so i can upgrade to a Deuter. We are outdoor guides and we need a pack that it is going to take abuse and deliver comfort and durability; Deuter packs are well known for that. The only thing that gave her a frown was the lack of a rain cover but there are ways around it.
I can't say enough good things about this pack. I used it on a short backpacking trip in Yosemite, carrying 30-35lbs. Once I hoisted it onto my back and got it properly adjusted, the weight just fell away. The design is great and puts the weight on the hips and well away from the shoulders. In fact, the padding in the straps, combined with the suspension, kept my shoulders from hurting at all. Since this was my first time to use the pack I did stop and play with the adjustment a few times till I got it right, and I must say that adjusting it is super easy and fast. There was plenty of room inside for my Garcia bear canister, sleeping bag, and all my other stuff! And my rei campbed 2.5 attached easily and snugly to the outside of the pack using the bed's velcro straps. I am simply blown away by the comfort of this backpack.
This backpack is my very first one so I don't have much to compare it to but I really like the comfort and stability of this pack. I've used it on several day hikes so far, in anticipation of a weekend backpacking trip at the end of this month. It is very adjustable, depending on your load; lots of pockets and hooks to hold your things. I especially like the top pocket where things can be easily found when I need them. My one issue with this pack is that the side pockets that hold my water bottles are too high up and I can't take my bottle out or put it back in without taking the pack off...a major time killer. Otherwise, this pack is my favorite piece of hiking gear :)
I shopped forever to find the perfect pack and I did! My pack was fitted [...] and it was different than what was "recommended" by Deuter. I bought this pack to walk the 500 mile Camino de Santiago across Spain and it was perfect! I love the separate compartment for the sleeping bag and the large zipped pocket up top. Also, the small pocket on the belt was large enough for my camera, chapstick, and iPod! I'm taking it on the Portuguese route this year! I also had a lot of strap leftover, so I did the same thing as another gal wrote and cut the excess off and singed the ends. Every ounce counts! One recommendation... remove the yellow flower. It really attracted bees! Seriously! Happy Trails!
I read reviews on many backpacks before buying a new one to replace my old Kelty Coyote 40. When I went to REI I asked for help to get a new backpack fitted, the first one that I tried was the Deuter 60+10 and just for comfort I bought it. It's the most comfortable backpack and the women's fit is much better than unisex. I'm 5'7" with a small waist but wider hips. The belt fitted well, but it could be bigger so it wraps around your waist more. I carried 30 lbs for 5 days and I didn't feel discomfort from the backpack or felt like moving/re-arrange my straps, it just sat right. My only note on this (which I also read on other reviews) is that with a full pack (and also because of the height of the internal frame) you cannot wear a full brim sun-hat, since you are constantly pressing it with the pack. Those two things just don't work. Overall the pack is light by itself, very comfortable with weight and easy to access.
