Comments about Marin Alpine Trail 29er Bike - 2010:
I have the 2010 bike and it's great. By the way, it's a cool burnt orange color this year, not red like the photo. Anyway, the price is right and the 29 inch wheels feel excellent. It feels like I am crushing everything on the trail and big puddles of mud and slush are no object for this beast. The bike kind of makes one want to scream while plowing through the unfortunate objects that are soon to be crushed beneath the monster wheels. Fun bike, good components, good price.. I recommend it !!

Comments about Marin Alpine Trail 29er Bike - 2010:
I have owned the 2009 version of this bike for just about a year now - I have NO complaints with the components (you get what you pay for and in this case - probably more). I was recently riding on a DIRT ROAD near my home and hit a pot hole, ended up almost losing it. After the ride, I found that the frame had bent - BENT!! All of the other components survived. I am an unconventional rider - 6'5" tall and 300lbs, but the fact that the frame bent and the wheels, handlebars and forks WERE NOT bent, tells me that the frame was weak.
Thats why I am writing this for the 2010 model, it is the SAME FRAME.
Also, don't believe the whole 100% REI warranty thing - this is costing me about 150.00+ and two weeks without a bike (has to be replaced through Marin) Will I stop buying from REI - no, but my next bike WILL NOT BE A MARIN.

Comments about Marin Alpine Trail 29er Bike - 2010:
I can climb many hill I couldn't before. It's slightly heavier than some but it's rugged and rolls over many things a 26" won't. It doesn't handle as well in tight areas due to the size but you make up for it in performance.

Comments about Marin Alpine Trail 29er Bike - 2010:
This is my first bike in years and my first 29er. I love the geometry and reach of this bike -- it has a better feel to it for taller people than standard MTBs. All I've changed out were the grips which I didn't care for, and replaced with some Ergon GP1 Grips available here at REI. I'll probably go clipless soon as well.
If you're in the market for a MTB and you're rather tall, or if you're looking for a 29er specifically, I'd recommend giving this beast a test drive. It's a tank, but it really feels good. I've had no problems whatsoever thus far and I've had it for about 4-5 months now, riding it 2-3 times a week. It's a bit heavy, but I'm a woman so maybe it's just me, as the other reviewers seem to think it's light. :P
