Comments about REI Classic Duffel Bag - XX Large:
Bought this bag to protect my backpacking gear while in transit to the west coast. While the bag fit all of my backpacking gear after the first trip to and from the west coast it has holes. Apparently the fabric is not durable enough to withstand the normal wear and tear of airline travel. These holes appeared even though their was no signs of excessive abuse. Thus its a great bag if you are traveling by train or car but I would not recommend it for air travel.

For the money, this is a pretty solid duffel. The cloth weight is not completely bomber, so you can't outright abuse this guy, but it gets the job done and doesn't add a lot of weight. I've used it on several car-camping trips and a couple of times as checked baggage on planes, carrying camping and bike gear. It has not yet incurred an oversize-baggage fee, although by my math it is technically 2" larger than the 62" airline standard.
Due to the size and packability, it is floppy unless filled with very rigid stuff. The four grab handles and neck strap, used in combination, make it manageable but i'd hate to lug this thing any more than a couple hundred feet. However i *love* that it packs into the little bag. This makes it easy to store in the bottom of a pack once you reach your destination, where you forget about it until you have to re-pack your stuff to head home.
One caveat: I enjoy folding things, and i can get this back into the bag, nice and flat, without much trouble. If you do it right, it's not a big deal, but otherwise can be a pain. If there were some handy folding instructions printed on the inside lid of the storage sack, that would be really nice!

I bought this bag to store and tranport a Tributary Sawtooth inflatable kayak. It is just big enough around to accommodate the rolled up IK, with room for seats, pump, and a throwbag on the end. Works great for keeping everything in one place in the garage, and makes it easy to grab and go to get out on the water.
So far so good on durability, but we'll see how it holds up. A pair of compression straps across the zipper would be great additions to make sure the zipper doesn't blow out and to decrease the overall bulk when loaded.

Bought this to store my backpacking gear in on a flight, and it worked great! Fit my pack, sleeping bag, tent, pad, poles, boots, and a few more things in it. It held up great through all the baggage handling. Stowes nice and small in the included pouch. Now we use it for filling with tons of clothes on family road trips, and it's great for that, too.
