Polartec Power Dry utilizes 2 different yarns on either side of the fabric to enhance comfort: interior yarn wicks moisture, and exterior yarn dries quickly

I have the old MTS tops and loved them. I made a mistake when I picked up a couple more and bought the wrong size. When I took them back they kindly replaced them with the new style. These a not even close the original. Waffle cloth is cheaper and thinner. Sleeves are too short. I bought the XL, same size as my old MTS and I am swimming in the new model, except for the sleeve length. The difference in size from L to XL is substantial. Try these on before you buy them

Unlike other reviewers, I have not tried the previous version, and so cannot make a comparison. I do find that the sleeves ride up, but only a little (hence the 4 stars). Perhaps I do not find this problematic because I wear it by itself and not under anything. Sleeve length is just fine: not too short or too long. One thing I find that is (sometimes) annoying is that because I wear it not completely zipped up, the zippers sometimes catch on my beard. So for people with beards, take this into consideration. That's what I get for having a beard, I guess.

I own both a T-neck and crew neck in the older lightweight MTS. The fit and feel on that was great. I was looking to add a couple of more zip T's and I saw that they were replacing that style with Powerdry and thought I would try one to see how it fit.

Not even close to the old stuff.

The cut is wierd. Sleeves are too short. Push your arms forward and you get your sleeve half way to your elbow. Not good.

Now in a good cut, I am an XL buy with this I would have to try XLT. But the shoulder cut is also not right. The design of this just is off, at least for me. I really like th eold lightweight MTS, I also really like Patagonia Cap 2 but this is not near as good as either of those So I sent it back.

Note- thefabric does not feel all that comfortable either. I got a tall version in the pants and they seem better comfort wise but the top was just not there. For being Polartek I thought it would be a more comfortable fabric.

Stock up on the old stuff.

REI decided a few years ago that if you're tall you should go somewhere else. I don't know how Jim Whittaker feels about that, but I don't like it. If you get it big enough so the sleeves fit you're swimming in it. If you get it so the body fits the sleeves are too short. Come on REI! Lots of guys over 6' tall are waiting for you to come to your senses. I'll continue to shop at [...]

I'm so disappointed in this product. The older MTS lightweight shirts were so much better. The fabric on these is not nearly as soft and comfortable. It's apparently no longer a UPF rated fabric, so wear it in the sun at your own risk.

I bought this shirt (white) for bike riding on warm, sunny days to keep cool and to keep the sun off of me. It worked perfectly in 80degrees and full sun. Pockets in the back and a tapered waist would be my only improvements. I live in Florida and Montana and have had plenty of skin cancer so I wear long sleeves year-round. Long sleeve bike shirts are too heavy and made for cooler weather. This is a great shirt for hot days while sailing. There is a market for a shirt like this for people in warm climates looking to reduce their sun exposure. Other colors would be nice: light blue, pink, yellow-green, etc. Make some changes and put this shirt into production.

I prefer the old MTS shirts. They were much softer, more comfortable and they fit me really, really well. The new ones are scratchy and don't fit as well. Now I will say that I never used the shirt as a base layer or long underwear. The new shirt model may be better at that. What I did use it for was for hot weather. No other shirt was as comfortable, or as breathable than the old lightweight MTS. I also much preferred the dark green color too.

If anyone is listening at REI to this, please bring back the old MTS lightweight, not necessarily for long underwear, but for a nice breathable lightweight shirt.

I like the new powerdry fabric. XL fits me perfectly (6' tall). The material is lightweight and very comfortable for activity. Zip neck is great. Also nice to find something made in the USA.
