The REI Sahara T-shirt layers well with other shirts and is suitable for just about any activity, from the most leisurely stroll to an intense traverse in the mountains.

Recycled polyester/polyester fabric is made a touch lighter weight than the fabric used in previous versions of the Sahara T-shirt to keep you comfortable during active use
Fabric has a soft, cottonlike feel and is designed to draw moisture off skin; fabric dries quickly
Recycled polyester is sourced from old plastic bottles and worn-out polyester garments
With a UPF 15 rating, fabric provides good protection against harmful ultraviolet rays
Rolled-forward shoulder seams enhance comfort while wearing a pack

I bought a ton of the Sahara Tech Tees last year,they fit great and were great quality. These shirts are not like those shirts. They feel loose, thin, and do not fit like the older model. Worst part is they are the same price as the old ones.

This new version pales in comparison to the old version - please bring back the old (and the old colors)!! I have several of the old shirts that are still going strong after several years of heavy use - the new shirts don't last long at all before they show signs of wear and tear. They're not even worth the price when on sale. This was one of the few tech shirts that had a great cotton-like feel, and now it's no longer any good because REI decided to change a good thing.

I purchased three of the sahara tech tees last year and was very happy with them. They wick moisture and perform like an outdoor shirt but feel like a cotton tshirt. Great for wearing underneath other clothing or just as a regular tshirt while out hiking.

That was then, this is now! I just received the newest incarnation of the sahara tshirt and am very disappointed. The fabric is way too thin and the shirt will only really work as a layer underneath other clothing. It's a shame that the old style was replaced with this sub par shirt. If it was half the price I would understand. I should have looked at the reviews more closely. I will be returning these shirts.

The fabric on these is thinner and fuzzier than on the previous model (I have 3 of those and love them), the stitching is less robust, and the fit is blousier. The new ones are pilling already, the old ones simply don't. These are quality I would expect from [...] not REI, they shouldn't have the same name as the previous model.

Like others, I owned the older version and love it. Comfortable, durable and high quality as I have come to expect from REI. I wear it everywhere.

I purchased this year's version and am disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I actually like the shirt. It's just not as good as the original. REI should have been honest and called this the "Sahara-Lite" and lowered the price.

If the original cost more to make, then keep it in the line-up and charge more for it. Just don't expect people not to notice the difference when you substitute a watered down version for the original.

These replacements are truly a poor option. The previous version was the Perfect shirt and these are no better than a discount store version. This should have been created as a new shirt and NOT a replacement.

REI is known for quality and I can only hope that this will be revised once again or categorized/priced differently!

I have purchased in total about a dozen of the Sahara T-Shirts for my husband over the past several years. My husband is a big muscular guy and the only wear we have ever noticed on the original shirts was in the seams in the underarm area. The seams ended up pulling apart, but only after a year or so of wear and tear. The rest of the shirt still held up really well.

I just went to purchase a few new replacement shirts for him, but I have to admit that the new fabric made me change my mind.

Previous shirts have lasted for quite a while and have that great soft feel. They wash up nicely and travel well as they resist wrinkles like your standard t-shirt. What happened?

I have 4 or 5 of last years model. Great shirts with no logos on them, but this year they feel cheaper, thinner, and baggier. They still do the job, but I will be waiting until they are on sale to buy them.
