Butt sweat. It's an embarrassing summertime dilemma. Piddle around outside in your cotton khaki shorts, or take a walk down the street on a hot day to grab lunch, or just stand around with pals at the beach while grilling burgers and spanish mackerel, and before you know it your rear end is sweating bullets and the seat of your shorts look like you've sat in a puddle. Not cool for the ladies, and little kids point and say, "Gross! He peed his pants!"

Problem solved with REI's Adventures Shorts! For the longest time I'd been looking for a pair of casual shorts with the fast-drying hiking short material and could not find them. But now I have. These things are GREAT! Pair them with REI's breathable Boxer Briefs and your butt sweat problem is gone! No more uncertain ladies, no more laughing kids. Your confidence will be restored.

I really, really, really like these shorts. Not totally keen on the extra zippered pockets on each side or on zippered pockets in general (my exact wish would be to find breatheable shorts designed exactly like a pair of khaki shorts), but I'm getting used to them and actually have found them sort of handy. All things considered, however, I really do like these short and plan to buy a couple more. Comfortable, versatile, handy. Renders butt sweat harmless.

These shorts rock! I use them all the time for travel and everyday use, as swimming trunks too. Lightweight, but not so flimsy that they bunch up easy or feel strange like some other brands. They air dry very fast too.

The best part about them is that they look great, you don't look like a gear-nerd with elastic waistbands, mesh panels, huge logos, etc.

I own an older version of them, as well as this new version. This updated style has been improved with larger thigh pockets, better zippers, and zippered back pockets instead of buttons. All were changes that I love.

But there are two changes that I miss from the older version. The tiny zippered change pocket on the right is now gone, and I miss it! It was perfect for securing a few keys, loose change, or a couple $100 peso bills for when I don't want to bring my wallet. The other pockets will work, but that little one was in the perfect spot, and the perfect size so these things don't jingle around or get in the way.

I also miss the dark blue color of my old ones, adding a few more colors to choose from would be fantastic.

I brought two different brands of travel shorts to Mexico for 5 weeks, and these ended up getting used almost every day!

I'm the kind of guy who buys shorts because I intend to wear them, and wear them often. These proved to be super comfy, breathable, quick-drying, and they look good to boot. I can wear these on the golf course, out anywhere, hiking, pretty much versatile enough for any activity. I liked em so much I immediately ordered two more pairs! I've recommended them to my brother, got compliments from my girl, and I'm sure you will like them as much as I do.

I wish I had purchased more than one pair of these awesome shorts! But, I will. They are great for the summer season. I can wear them for biking in the morning then wear them again later in the day for "going out". The light weight material moves with you and doesn't weigh you down like other materials can.

The zippered pockets are excellent for securing your valuables, e.g., cash, keys, etc. I'm not sure about wearing these for water activities as other reviewers stated. But, these shorts do handle moisture with ease.

These Adventure shorts are a bit pricey but worth it. Especially, when they're on sale!

Have four pair of these shorts but due to minimum color selection three are the same. I am sure the neighbors think I never wash them.!!!!! PLEASE REI get more colors.

great shorts. i have the older version, which seem to be very similar, but the zipper finally gave out. bought a new pair and they seem to be cut even smaller than the older version which were also cut a bit small. i usually wear a 33 inch waist. got these in the 34 but will exchange them for a 35.

These shorts are just great. I will wear them before any other shorts I own, and that is the mark of a good pair of shorts. They do everything everyone else says about them, while looking good. They are relatively inexpensive, well-made and comfortable. I have only owned them for 2 months or so so I cant comment on their durability yet, but I've worn them hiking, hanging out, tubing and bicycling and they are perfectly un-noticeable while doing any of these things. I cant wait to get another pair (or 2)!

I really like these shorts. The length and look are perfect. My only complaint is that the waist (size 32) seems a little tight (this is in comparison to a pair of Royal Robbins shorts of similar style that I bought around the same time).

I got these because I wanted a pair of shorts that were a little less casual looking than, say, REI's Sahara cargo shorts, but offered all of the performance in terms of being cool, comfortable, and fast drying. These shorts really fit the bill. They're comfortable, do a great job of wicking sweat and keeping you cool, and look great. I like that they don't _look_ like they're made from synthetic material. And the little zippered side pockets, though unsurprisingly not as easy to use as cargo pockets, have turned out to be quite functional. I'm very happy with my purchase, and am looking forward to some of my older shorts wearing out so I can justify buying a couple more pairs of these.
