The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 28" Inseam:
While this year's version retains several of the positives of the past, the 28" inseam is not using the same ruler or at least not cut straight. Like many items today the length is longer than stated. Not all things in life are relative. Measurements are absolutes to depend on. Please bring back last year's ruler; that was something special in these days.
I am also getting used to the new belt buckle. Not complaining just not sure of durability or ability to stay secure in action ... or when eating too much. Time will tell.
Would not recommend to those expecting 28" length. More like 30" length in back and front with 28" on the inside. Simply drapes too long. Would recommend in general, though.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 28" Inseam:
I agree with the other reviewer. This is a step backwards from the previous years. They completely changed the design of these pants. For the past several years I have been buying and wearing these pants almost exclusively. I am short and I finally found a pants that I can just buy off the shelf and wear without hiring a tailor. But now, I have to start looking again.
This new design is 2 inches longer. I measured them with several of my previous year designs. It is very noticeable when walking and they hit the ground now.
They removed the cell phone pocket that was on the inside of the bottom left side pocket. This was a perfect fit for my iPhone. They added two little pockets on the outside of the left/right side pockets that are useless. A cell phone won't fit in them and I wouldn't trust anything in them anyway, from not falling out. They added a cell phone pocket to the top right pocket. But this is a very uncomfortable place to carry a phone for sitting. They also added some little zipper pocket there that is basically useless unless you want to zipper your change or something.
They got rid of the zipper on the side right pocket. I do agree with the other reviewer that this was a cheap zipper and almost all of my old pants this zipper is broken on, but at least it was a good place for a zipper and they had velcro on the pocket to back it up.
I also don't like the new belt buckle design. The older one clipped in nicely. Was easy to remove and it was easier to adjust the older pants.
The full length zip they added I can see as a good feature, though I haven't used it yet. I was actually excited to get a new pair when I read about that. But they have changed so much of everything else that it is not worth it.
I do love REI and buy many things from them and I love the old pants. Here is hoping they bring them back.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 28" Inseam:
These pants seem like a step backward from the last version of the 28" inseam Sahara pants. The full length zips are nice, the fabric is light and dries quickly and being able to use a real belt is a plus.
But the pants are definitely longer than the last 28 inch version. While I was never crazy about the cheap zipper on the right thigh cargo pocket of the last version, at least the pocket had a zipper. The only pocket zipper on these is the strange pocket inside the front right pocket. The cargo pockets also have a small, external pocket with a velcro closure. I am not sure what I would put in them and how much I would trust that items would stay in them. The internal cell phone pocket on the last version was much more practical.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 28" Inseam:
Like everyone else said...these are not a 28" inseam. Bought a pair last year and liked them enough to order another pair and they are at least 2" longer. Due to zipper these are not something can just be easily and cheaply hemmed. I wear them as shorts.
Too bad, really.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 28" Inseam:
Went to an REI store to purchase another pair of these pants and was very disappointed that they chose to 're-design' out the best features of these popular and practical pants. The older design and fabric was much better; not the run of the mill thin nylon. The previous model of Saharas were unique in their construction and durability. Hopefully REI will get the message and go back to the older and superior design.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 28" Inseam:
The last version of the 28" inseam came in green, but now the new 'no sit' version does not. Why doesn't REI offer this size in all three colors? I wanted a pair in green, so I had to buy a 30" inseam which is too long and will have to have it altered.

I thought that after getting poor reviews about length, REI would have corrected the problem. Not so. Still 2 inches too long.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 28" Inseam:
Like other reviewers, I miss the old design. I just hope my old pair holds up until REI decides to bring the old design back. The new 28" inseam is definitely longer than the old -- it's constantly caught under my heel, getting all torn up. The full-length zip is nice, but not an even trade-off. The new belt suffices, I guess, but it's not as hearty as the old. I also miss the cell phone pocket that disappeared. REI, I love your products, but please bring back the old 28" convertibles. And if you want to start offering more 28" choices, that wouldn't be so bad, either.

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 28" Inseam:
Inseam on both new and old style measures 28 inches. However, new style has 12 inch drop (waist to crotch)compared with 10 inch on older style. So, if worn with the waist band in the same position, the new style hangs 2 inches longer. For me, with my still too generously sized rear end, the additional inseam length is appreciated. I do agree with other critical comments about pockets and belt buckle. And where is the green color?

Comments about REI Sahara Convertible Pants with No-Sit Zips - Men's 28" Inseam:
I feel bad having to give an REI product a negative review, but I have to agree with the negative comments about this version of Sahara pants. I have been wearing Sahara pants for a decade, almost every day for the last six years.
The last version with the zippered side pocket were perfect. The newest version is just poorly designed by someone that must not have spent any time wearing them. On the last version, the zippered side pocket was the best feature.
I'll reiterate the negatives about the latest version that I just received this June, 2011:
The top section seems longer to the knee, if a customer is buying the 28" version, we aren't looking for LONGER sections :) The zippered side pocket is gone, the new pocket design makes no practical sense, there is a zippered pocket on the back, but I don't want to carry stuff there, that's where I sit down!
REI: Please bring back a sensible design to the Sahara pants, I love them! (except these). I've been a brand champion for these until now. The new ones still have the tags and are being returned tomorrow.
