The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Screen House:
I have been a REI member for 3 decades, and this product is NOT REI quality! Number 1) No tent fly should be optional.2) If you pay that much for the tent & fly then it should keep everything within dry. It does not because the fly is like a beanie, and the walls slope (ie the bottom is bigger than the roof) so water pours off the fly and right through the walls onto your table, food, etc. 3) The poles on mine have bent, and I am someone who takes good care of my equipment! I would not recomend this to anyone.

Comments about REI Screen House:
We've owned one of these for seven years and have used it extensively all over the West both for car camping and for river trips. Overall, it is a very good (not perfect) piece of gear, and we're glad we have it, especially when there are bugs around. It is a wonderful bug shelter (rates a 5 in this category) and we've never met a picnic table that it wouldn't cover. Additionally, it has performed adequately as both a rain and sun shelter--again, not perfect but very good--name one other non-tent piece of equipment with that type of shelter versatility! We purchased the rainfly, and this greatly expands the uses of the shelter.
Because the base of the shelter slopes outward, the edges will get wet in rain. If you are looking for total dry, you'll be disappointed. We just move our stuff inward a little and are fine--there is still enough room. The shelter even kept 8 of us dry during a ferocious all-day storm on the Rogue River.
We consider the shelter easy to put up, but had the opposite opinion the first several times we did it. A little practice goes a long ways. If you stake it out and put the roof poles in first, it can be a one-person job. My wife, who is 5' 3", has it all pitched by herself in 10 minutes while I'm messing with the stove.
Wind: I would not call this shelter an all-star when it comes to wind stability, but it does well with the proper reinforcement. I purchased sturdier line than what came with the shelter. Above 10 mph wind, anchoring with stakes alone is iffy--we try to get at least two solid anchors like trees or boulders, another reason for having extra line. With the solid anchors, it's ridden out some storms with gusts of 25 mph, but in anything more I'd just take it down, as I have on a couple of occasions. With that much wind, you don't have to worry about the bugs anyway. :)

Comments about REI Screen House:
This is not a tent. If you need a living space, I suggest you purchase one with a floor. This is a screen house, it keeps bugs away from areas where one would eat or hang out.

Comments about REI Screen House:
We waited to buy this on sale plus promotional discount, as we would not pay full price for this particular item.
We bought it mainly to use as a basic shelter to contain our tables of electronic equipment and papers while doing field work.
It also works as a bug deterrent over our deck dining area.
Stable enough for our needs, but we do need to find a fly to make it better in rainy, windy, or overly sunny conditions. Highly irritating that REI doesn't sell the coordinating fly.
Pros = Easy to put up with two people. Large enough to accommodate a dining area. Stable when using guy wires/stakes, so if you're setting up on concrete, bring reinforcements. Unobstructed view from inside. Good for basic shelter and casual use if you just want to block bugs and diffuse a little sun, wind, or drizzle (not rain). Packs up easily and stores in its own duffel bag.
Note: Spray shelter with waterproof sealer prior to use, just like you would a tent.
Cons = Can't find a fly for it; REI doesn't sell one specifically for this model. Wouldn't use in rain; a sprinkling is ok. Flimsy without stakes/guys. Takes 4 people to move it all at once. Also, since it has no floor, you will trap inside whatever is on the ground beneath you; use a tarp for a floor to fix that.
Superfine mesh is a good bug deterrent but creates slightly warmer interior since it blocks some wind too. That could be a good thing if you're out on a chilly day.
This is a nice shelter for basic recreation--good for picnics or beach outings in optimal conditions. Would probably be okay for car camping for its portability/packability, bug screen, and generous finished size.
Bottom line: I'd recommend this to people who don't really care about the rain fly aspect. It's easy to work with and does the basics. If you want something more versatile or heavy duty, keep looking for another product.

Comments about REI Screen House:
we bought this despite the poor reviews and were pleasantly surprised with this screen room! we'd tried other brands, but comparatively, this screen room was lightweight, sturdy, quick to assemble, and easy to zip and unzip... it didn't blow around in the wind and kept us fairly bug free while eating. we are very pleased with our purchase and love how small and light the packed version is.

Comments about REI Screen House:
We used this screen tent on a trip to Grand Lake Co over the 4th of July. Set up was straight forward and you could move it fully assembled with 2-3 people. I would suggest you do stake it firmly at all points and use the guy ropes to ensure no wind issues. But it provided a bug free enclosure during evening card games at the picnic table. As for the overall interior size, a standard park picnic table will fit with little room to spare. We had no issues with the zippers and do look forward to using it for family gatherings in the backyard. They were sold out of the rain fly, and we didn't have any rain, so the jury is still out on that aspect. I may fashion a DIY rain fly out of a large tarp before the next trip.

Comments about REI Screen House:
I've used this screen house for a specific family trip for 4 years, one time a year. I've been fortunate to have camped in good weather. And, in good weather conditions the shelter worked. As other have commented, it is a bit cramped, and the zippers are not the best.
I experienced some "bad" weather on this year's trip and one tent pole failed. After "fixing" the pole with the supplied repair piece, the other pole failed... I wouldn't characterize the weather as particularly "bad". Shelters of other makes happily rode out the storm with no ill effects.
Currently, I need to decide whether to have the poles repaired or buy a new shelter - not another Screen House.

Comments about REI Screen House:
This was the star product of our recent trip. You have to be somewhat crazy to take a back country camping trip to Assateague Island, MD in the summer is because of the sheer volume of mosquitoes on the island. This tent was a savior and safe haven from the all the bugs. Set-up and take down took maybe 3 minutes max, it was super lightweight and could easily fit over a picnic table with plenty of room on either side to walk around. It felt roomy and spacious, the zippers moved like butter and there were some nice pockets in the side to stash some gear. We also took this to the beach and were again impressed with the versatility of the tent. It provided ample shade and even with a strong breeze it felt study when staked it in the sand. Overall, a stellar product from REI that could be used for a million different things.

Comments about REI Screen House:
10x10 is simply too small! Tried at several car camping spots and have not been able to get a picnic table in it without it touching each wall making it awkward to move around. Plus no rain fly? If you are suckered into purchasing the rain fly be aware it covers the top and one side. YES ONE SIDE it is NOT a four sided rain fly. USELESS and DISAPPOINTING. Check out COLEMAN much better in this dept.

Comments about REI Screen House:
I have been using the REI screen house for only one season, and I have been extremely happy with my purchase. This is a screen house...not a tent! I use this as a shade structure, and to keep away from insects. I have slept inside when there was nice weather, but had my tent ready to go if needed. I like to set this up with an old rug and pillows inside for a nice chill spot to read. This product has done exactly what I had hoped it would for the most part. I wish this was a system sometimes with options for different walls or a floor. Or what if you could connect two together? Dunno just thinking outloud incase a designer is reading this.
A few things to note.
Does not come with a rainfly. Que? Really REI?
That said this is not designed for heavy weather anyway, but if you are camping in a location that gets a lot of rain then a rainfly is nice.
You should use the stakes and tie downs that come with it! seriously...it works in the wind if set up correctly! (Do not take this to an extreme environment like burning man. I suspect you would be disappointed.)
All in all a great product when used correctly and as designed.
