Comments about REI Hood River Fleece Hoodie - Men's:
Not heavy enough to be a good thermal or mid-layer, and not repellent enough to be worn alone, this is still a well fitting and comfortable hoodie for roaming around town. The brushed tricot-type lining is soft and the zippers move smoothly. The pockets are well positioned and are also lined with brushed tricot-type fabric as the body. The hood is deeply cut, so it tends to ride low into the eyes unless a ball cap or other visored hat is worn. Overall, though, a great addition to an everydeay wardrobe.

Comments about REI Hood River Fleece Hoodie - Men's:
I wanted a hoody 10 years ago. Weren't many back then. Nowadays Under Armour and Nike make fine hoodies out of good synthetic materials; Champion continues to make basic cotton blend athletic hoodies; American Apparel makes fashion hoodies; and REI has joined the fray with one of the best looking yet. When selecting a hoody, the two basic questions are pullover or full zip? and cotton (or cotton blend) or synthetic? Cotton and blends have the real classic old school look, but synthetics perform MUCH better - they provide some real insulation and don't die if they get wet. I prefer full zippers so I can adjust the venting and get it on and off easier; and I prefer zippered pockets to keep contents more secure (no need losing the car keys, right?). Under Armour's full zip hoody is a little too thick for me, and while their pullovers are a tad lighter material, I don't like pullovers as much. Plus their pockets are "open" with no zipper closure. Nike makes an almost perfect weight pullover, but once again it is a pullover and does not have zippers on its pockets. (They make full zips, but only in cotton blends so far as I have seen to date.) Hence REI has (fortuitously) nailed my preferences list: it is a thinner material (roughly comparable to Patagonia R1 fleece, or to microfleece); it is full zip; and it has great full zippered handwarmer pockets. The fit is athletic - not "sausage wear" athletic, but trim, not urban baggy. It fits well under a rain shell or usual lightly lined jacket, which means it is great for travel, you can wear it like a sweater under a jacket during the transit and as a sweater at destination. A bulkier hoody won't layer as well, so I appreciate REI's lighter approach. There is very little wind resistance, even compared to UA and Nike hoodies, but since I carry an unlined nylon shell (Patagonia Houdini or Nine Trails or Marmot Ion) that doesn't matter. There is NO water repellency, at least on mine, so I treated it with Nikwax PolarProof which did the trick - mentally add a few dollars to the total acquisition pricing if great water resistance is important to you, as it is to me. I wear mine on transpacific airflights, by itself, or under a wind shell if the flight is cold. The hood is great for a touch of extra warmth or to keep out light (although I usually roll a watchcap down over my eyes for sleeping). At destination, this REI hoody is fashionable enough to wear out to nice dining, hence the title of this review. Yes it is technical and yes it is well made and designed, but at the end of the day it looks great and that is the tipping factor for me. P.S. - the REI logo is very subdued compared to their jackets of a few years ago. Thanks REI!

i received this jacket on one of the only 70 degree plus days so it is yet to be tested in cold weather. it is super comfortable, it fits very well. it looks wonderful. i ordered the XXL and it fits my 6'2 frame very well. i have not put my North Face over it yet (too hot) nor have i experienced cold wind but this jacket is the bomb so far.

Comments about REI Hood River Fleece Hoodie - Men's:
I've lived in this since purchasing. 6'1 155lbs and small fits nicely; usually sleeve length is an issue for me and these are plenty long enough. I purchased for casual wear, but have ended up taking on hikes/showshoes since it fits so well under a shell or puffy adding warmth with the hood.
The outer fabric is kind of a sponge for water so treating it (haven't) is recommended if in elements. Also, the fabric has snagged some so I wouldn't go tearing through the brush or wash it with velcro.
All in all, for the price, it is a must have. I may get another color if it goes on clearance.

Comments about REI Hood River Fleece Hoodie - Men's:
Hands down the best hoodie I have ever owned. I am 28, work construction, snowboard a ton, and do anything outside. I have roomfuls of hoodies that don't get worn but I am going to own every color of this soon. Hopefully they come out with more!

Comments about REI Hood River Fleece Hoodie - Men's:
Wear this alone on dry 30 degree winter days or as a liner on cold and wet winter days. Jacket construction and materials are very good. It's a terrific 3 season jacket and provides warmth and comfort. I really like it.
