Comments about Black Diamond Nitro Pack:
I loved this pack for several months on extended day hikes in sunny AZ, then after a rainy descent, 5 - 6 hrs from Mt. Wheeler in NM realized that, not only is it NOT waterproof/resistant in the least, it acts as reverse goretex-type fabric in a way. I was carrying extra gear in the expandable back pouch, perhaps that contributed to the water collection (even tho' it was cinched tight) inside the main compartment. Everything was completely soaked, all interior spaces; plus, at least 1/2 liter of water was sloshing around inside of the pack after unloading it at end of hike! Black Diamond, PLEEEEZE give us a clue about this very bad feature and perhaps offer a lightweight waterproof cover? I now carry a couple of spare plastic bags inside for the next rain, but doubt that will prevent the water from collecting inside as it did before. So disappointed.

Comments about Black Diamond Nitro Pack:
Well I bought this for two reasons. One is for day hikes where I will pack this thing full and the other is for the city traveling. I knew it'd be great for the trails but I wasn't certain about the city. Usually around town I am just walking around and taking the train places and I didn't want to look like a goober with a waist belt on but i am happy to tell everyone you can actually fold the waist straps across the back and bring the clips around to the front of the pack and secure them so they are out of the way. its great.
For those who will pack this full and aren't interested in using the waist straps its still no problem. I bought the large model. very low profile which is great in a city setting and still adjustable enough to pack full when doing a long day or over nighter (minimal of course) on the Appalachian trail. From the looks of it I wouldn't use it in wet weather but I haven't had a chance to try it out.
With that said I'm not against the waist belts because they're great for long hikes and staying mobile in tight or awkward situations so I look forward to trying this pack out on some free climbs and such.

Comments about Black Diamond Nitro Pack:
I have been searching for a good pack for awhile. i have tried over 6 packs(in the past 2 months) and so far the black daimond notri and octane has been the most comfortable packs i have ever used. I use them for day hikes and around town. the octane is 28L and the nitro is 22L but i'm not sure if those are correct because i can stuff way more items in them can i have stuffed in my older bags of the same or larger size. i have an old camelbak that i think is aorund 26L but i can hold more stuff and still have more in the 22L nitro. at first i was hesitant on trying the nitro but man was i wrong. it's like a black hole. the side stretchy pockets are very good even for holding loose items ( the octane is better due to deeper and tighter pockets). the reactiv suspension really works. feels super comfy.
the cons of the packs are that they do not have a lot of pockets for organization. you have to do it yourself. if it had 2 or 3 extra pockets, then it would be a perfect pack for me. watr proofing would be nice also. and maybe a few molle attachments or a clip to hold trek poles(you have to use compression straps to hold poles). the 1 extra pocket on the nitro is very tiny!!!
i will be bringing the nitro with me to denali later this year. if they do add some extra pockets for next years release, i will definitely be buying another one!
over all, it can hold a TON for it's size.

Comments about Black Diamond Nitro Pack:
I bought this pack based off of a very positive review in Backpacker magazing. I needed a versatile pack that I could hump around while traveling to the middle east. I took it on a three week trip to Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey and I couldn't have been more pleased!
It didn't matter if I was pounding the pavement in dense urban enviorments or climbing up the rocky paths of Petra, the Nitro never failed me. It's simple, top-loading design was quick and easy. The straps were very comfortable and it has an awesome waist belt. This pack stays glued to your back and keeps the weight centered and balanced. This pack is durable, and believe me I did not baby this thing. The only wear that I have seen to date is some fraying on the side stretch pockets but to be fair I did throw this bag around and these pockets took the brunt of my abuse.
As an Arizona hiker I am used to hiking in the heat so I was pleased with the back-panel ventilation, which helped immensely in the blistering Egyptian and Jordanian sun. I also was very pleased to have the internal frame.
The only thing I can really point out is that this pack, while durable and rip-resistant, is not water proof. It will handle light water but it's not going to repel heavy water.
Overall, this is a solid pack.

Comments about Black Diamond Nitro Pack:
This is by far one the best best day packs for its class. great quality, great comfort, well built, best of all, its pretty weather resistant. I use it for school, walking around town, and day hikes and most of the time with my luck it rains. this pack never gets "soaked" and for the most part, the contents stays dry. i love the stretch waterbottle pockets on both sides, easily fits a Nalgene and even a military issue canteen with cup.
the one thing,i wish it had more external pockets, just to stash small things like a knife or a light. theres really nothing wrong with this pack, its great! anyone looking for a amazing day pack, look in to the nitro!

Comments about Black Diamond Nitro Pack:
Only 2lbs!!! Extremely comfortable and adjustable. I would consider this a technical daypack which suits my needs perfectly. Very well designed - from the internal frame down to the zipper pulls. Major kudos to Black Diamond on this one.
Service and delivery comments:
Shipping was extremely fast. I had originally ordered and received too small of a torso size (totally my fault). REI handled the exchange expeditiously and without any hassle. Top notch customer service!

Comments about Black Diamond Nitro Pack:
I bought this pack as my daypack for the 2010 National Scout Jamboree that I am attending in a few days. When I picked up this pack I knew it would serve me well. The lightweight yet durable looking construction and the smart layout of everything was spot on. I like the extremely stretchy side pockets as they fit my 38 oz. water bottles with room to spare for my headlamp. The outside buckled pocket is perfect for maps, snacks, and a raincoat. There is a hipbelt pocket that can easily fit a camera and case or a pair of sunglasses. The hydration pocket snugly fits a 3L hydration bladder. The thing that most surprised me is all the stuff the main compartment can hold. It fit 4 XL T-shirts, 4 pairs of socks, 4 pairs of boxer briefs, an empty hydration bladder and its cleaning supplies, laundry bag, and raincoat. It just swallows the gear and is insanely comfortable while wearing it. The only thing I am worried about is that the zippers might break as they are smaller than what you normally see on daypacks. Nothing has happened yet and they feel secure but that is usually the first thing to go on all of the daypacks I've owned. Overall a great pack though.

Comments about Black Diamond Nitro Pack:
I've had the pack long enough to take it one day hike but it was a great first test for this pack and it performed very well. I took it on the Lincoln-Lafayette loop in the White Mountains on a very rainy and nasty day so there was quite a bit of scrambling around.
The pack was laden with a lot of stuff for a day hike because of the poor conditions. That just helps me give credit to a wonderful hip belt and overall suspension because I barely felt the weight even after the long day. Even better was the ability to scramble around on the wet rocks. It was so stable I forgot it was there.
It's not meant to be waterproof but it held up great with the rain as well. It didn't get soaking wet and heavy like some of my friends packs.
It's far too early to speak for the durability, but I see no reason for concern at this point.
Highly recommended.

Comments about Black Diamond Nitro Pack:
this pack is great, i love everything about it, i cut the straps a little bit though and re seamed them, i hate the excessive dangle of the straps on all backpacks so i didnt count that as a con, as i myself find that a con in every bag.
however i love the pack for everything i do whether it be day hikes or just keeping it in my car for daily use. however i am considering buying a water proofing agent to apply to this pack, and thats my only concern.
