Comments about Showers Pass Touring Bike Jacket - Men's:

While the yellow parts of the coat seem reasonably waterproof, the black parts are made from a different fabric and leak quite badly. Add that to the fact that there is not even an attempt to seal the zippers to the "pit flaps" and rain with any wind can get to your shirt almost as quickly as if you weren't wearing waterproof gear. I'm regularly soaked to the skin in this thing, it looks like I jumped into a pool.

This is really a terrible product and a scam, I can't tell you how disappointed I am after reading such good reviews.

Comments about Showers Pass Touring Bike Jacket - Men's:

The front zipper on this jacket will let water penetrate getting your shirt wet in the front. It is good in light rain only. Unfortunately I live in Miami where there is hard driving rain all summer long. For [$] this jacket should be fully waterproof in any condition and it is not. All it would take is a flap over the zipper to solve this. Poorly designed. I am back to wearing a cheaper north face raincoat that is truly waterproof and includes a hood.

I like the pit zips and the "Napoleon pocket".

I needed a Large Club Pro Bike Jacket, but a Medium Touring Bike Jacket. Strange since they are made by the same manufacturer.

Yellow is okay, but I wish it came in florescent green. The 360 degree reflective details are very desirable.

Comments about Showers Pass Touring Bike Jacket - Men's:

I have owned this jacket for several years and pretty barely tolerated it. I use it mostly for touring and I am thankful that I haven't encountered multiple days of wet weather in a row because I am usually soaked after a day of riding in this jacket. I promise to replace it when I return home but forget about it and pull it out again for the next tour. As another reviewer mentioned the black material is different and lets water in. My arms are usually soaked after a short while. The fabric doesn't breathe and I am clammy even with all venting options open. I am considering replacing it with one of their higher end options only because that's what REI carries and I want to use my dividend. I gave it two stars because I am a big guy and the XL is very roomy. I wouldn't want to meet the person who wears the XXL in a dark alley.

Comments about Showers Pass Touring Bike Jacket - Men's:

I use this jacket in cool and cold weather, no matter if it's raining or snowing. It took a while to get use to the snug neck, but now I appreciate it. The arms are a bit long, but there's never any worry about sleeves being too short when reaching/riding. It's highly visible, well ventilated, water-proof and wind-proof. I don't quite understand the negative comments I've read. It's worked quite well for me over the last two years. I consider it essential for my commuting needs in fall, winter, and spring. I usually ride 20 to 30 miles a week between commuting and running errands.

Comments about Showers Pass Touring Bike Jacket - Men's:

Great shell, breathes well so you don't overheat. Rode with base layer and long sleeve jersey in 40 degree wet weather in Salt Lake City, was barely damp after a hard hour in the saddle. Sleeves are too long, hips are snug and torso area could be a little more fitted, but overall it's a great jacket. Handy zip up pockets in the front instead of the typical rear pockets.

Comments about Showers Pass Touring Bike Jacket - Men's:

I have worn this jacket for more than a year in rainy weather below 75 degrees and all weather below 60 degrees and love it. I commute to work in the Washington DC area and this jacket has kept me dry in both torrential thunderstorms and heavy steady rain. It also keeps me warm in cold weather with the appropriate base layer(the REI powerstretch fleece works great down into the 20's for me).

I also have used this jacket on heavy exertion training rides in colder weather (below 50) on aerobars and not and have not had any breathability issues with the pit zips providing great ventilation flexibility once you've warmed up.

I've never had any problems with leaks as other reviewers have complained about, I ride with fenders in heavy rain so I don't have water coming from below. As noted above, I've worn this in thunderstorms and for over an hour in steady hard rain and have stayed dry in both.

The sleeves are long but I've found this to be a be a positive feature because the cuffs are fabulous neoprene with velcro and since I ride drop handlebars, they work great and my sleeves never ride up; a key feature in both rain and cold.

Based on my love of this jacket, I just purchased the Showers Pass convertible pants, I'll write a review on those once I have enough experience with them.

I do own the hood, it's sized to go under a helmet, but haven't tested it enough to recommend it one way or the other but it seems like it would be nice to keep water out of your neck but might hinder visibility just enough where I wouldn't want to wear it in the city.

My only complaints about the jacket, and keep in mind I still give this 5 stars out of 5, are that if I was a designer at Showers Pass, I would add some more reflective material on the back of the jacket in the black sections (when I ride at night, I want all the reflective material I can get), perhaps add some yellow highlights in the black section in the back so that it's even more visible when riding in the drops during the day, and I would beef up the snaps for the drop tail because they are starting come loose occasionally, which can be annoying when it's not raining. A Hi-vis yellow color option would also be a feature I'd be interested in.

Comments about Showers Pass Touring Bike Jacket - Men's:

For me the holy grail is the perfect highly visible cycling jacket and this one is the best I can find at REI. It has all the essentials: reflective material, Napoleon pocket, side pockets, pit vents, waterproof but breathable shell that is well-ventilated, with a partial mesh liner. It's not perfect because I don't really like the color (it is closer to mustard and I prefer a brighter yellow or yellow green). Most cycling jackets are trim and this one is not. Usually an XL cycling jacket is snug on me and this one was baggy, so I sent it back for a large. The arms are definitely over-long, though that may be a plus for some. As far as the negative reviews, you will never get a perfect balance between waterproof and breathable, but this one is close. All in all, a well designed product at a reasonable price.

Comments about Showers Pass Touring Bike Jacket - Men's:

I live in a very rainy area, and this jacket works great. I'm happy with the venting, and I'm really happy with the waterproofing. I would recommend this jacket to anyone wanting to stay dry.

However, the fit is pretty bad. There's a bit of a Hefty bag feel to it. But, the coat does feel good while biking. I use an older/worse jacket for running because this would not be comfortable. Unless you can try this in the store, don't expect to look good or use this running.

If you want a waterproof jacket that feels good biking, this is a great option.

Comments about Showers Pass Touring Bike Jacket - Men's:

I am a daily commuter and avid cyclist. I ride all over the west coast and enjoy touring, group rides, centuries etc. I bought this for the rainy season and my first priority is getting to work dry. The first time I wore it in the rain, on a short two mile ride in a moderate rain, I got home with a large wet spot on my chest. I'm glad it didn't rain on my way to work or I would have had to find another shirt to wear. I like the workmanship on this jacket but am terribly disappointed that it doesn't keep the rain out.
