Total Internal Reflection (TIR) lens focuses light into a smooth beam with maximum output and virtually no rings, spots or other annoying imperfections

Bought one of these in September 2009 and ever since it's proven to be an invaluable tool. The dual-intensity output is extremely useful; the low is great for reading or close-up lighting and the high beam lights up the night. I've dropped the light several times and each time it keeps on ticking. The battery life is startlingly good, as one set of batteries lasted a two-week stint out in the forest.

If you're looking for the be all, end all of lights then this is it.

I've taken it in mud caves (dusty), car camping and backpacking (cold weather, not winter/freezing weather). It is without a doubt a must add as your ultimate flashlight! It is very well made and very rugged!

According to Surefire's website the run time is 47 hours on the lowest beam (at 15 lumens) and 2 hours on highest (at 200 lumens). I have yet to leave my Surefire on for that long but I think it's safe to say LED's definitely last a lot longer than any incandescent or halogen bulb!

Unlike other Surefires that I own, this one casts a more focused beam for quite a distance down range. Because of this pattern, I use it more for path/trail finding in unfamiliar terrain than seeking out that noise in the backyard at night. Smoother grip, compared to some other Surefires, goes easy on the pants and packs. Clip allows convenient dual direction carry. Lanyard prevents accidental drops.

Cannot comment on durability as I treat my gear with TLC.

At all most [$] for a flashlight most people would be scared away. but you need to use one of many Surefire lights to understand what your dealing with. I bought the Lx2 in 2009. This is one of Surefires newer lights out right now and its amazing. The low and high feature is easy to use and very useful, this helps with battery life a lot. Nice white beam that is very big and bright. Buit like a tank, advanced LED technology, Simply awesome.
