Small, light and bright, the compact Petzl Zipka® Plus 2 headlamp features the Zip retractable cord system, making it 25% more compact than the Petzl Tikka Plus® 2 headlamp.

Zip Dyneema® retractable cord allows the headlamp to be worn on the head or wrist, or attached to any other support, such as a tent pole or bicycle seatpost
Single high-output LED provides even, white lighting throughout your field of vision with no blank spots in the beam; special lens optimizes the reach of the beam to 35m
Red LED positioned to the side of the white LED lets you preserve your night vision or use the headlamp as a blinking light to increase your visibility in urban environments
Push-button switch easily changes between 3 white lighting modes (high, low and flashing) so you can choose the appropriate light level for the task at hand
Also change between 2 red lighting modes (continuous and blinking)
White light on low level provides up to 140 hrs. of use and on high up to 55 hrs.; red continuous provides up to 100 hrs.
Hold down the on/off switch to change between red and white lighting modes
Battery charge indicator light comes on when the beam distance diminishes to 5m and when there is only 50% battery life remaining for proximity lighting
Provides IPX4 water resistance for reliability in inclement weather
Headlamp tilts to point light where you need it
Compatible with the Petzl Adapt Tikka 2 system (not included), which allows you to quickly and easily attach the light in a variety of places
Battery compartment is hinged to allow simpler access than the previous version of the Zipka; compartment closes easily and securely
Runs on 3 AAA alkaline batteries, included; Zipka Plus 2 is compatible with lithium batteries, which are lighter than alkaline batteries and perform well in cold temperatures

I don't like wearing headlights, because of the head bands, so the retractable feature is great. I use this light all the time. It is not bulky in size. It is comfortable even for reading in bed. This is a VERY bright light. Don't forget to use the lower beam and the red light. Your eyes will adjust and it won't disturb others around you. You can also use this light around your wrist, your hiking stick, etc. The battery charge indicator is also a nice feature. My son prefers the Tikka Plus 2 because it will stay on his head better, and he likes the tilt feature. The zipka model is not for a jogger.

I lost my new headlamp weeks ago but found it in the driveway tonight. It had been run over repeatedly, the back was off, the batteries were dented from limestones and it is majorly scuffed. However, I cleaned it up and it still works. That is quite a testament to trail toughness. No plastic breakage at all and waterproof when open! Definitely worth the money!!!

I own a handfull of headlamps, including Petzl's Myo RXP, an old Black Diamond, and several other random headlamps I've collected. This is now my go-to headlamp. The retractable cord is fantastic. I really like being able to wrap it around my arm, tree limbs, poles, or whatever. Might not be great for runners, but it fits comfortably around my head and doesn't fall out of place. The beam is bright enough without blinding. I don't normally use the strobe, but the strobe effect on this is much more "strobe" like and not just on/off blinking than any other light I've used. The red lamp is another great feature and I use the red beam about 25% of the time now. The light doesn't tilt, but beam is enough of a flood that it hardly matters to me.

Great headlamp! The retractable cord system is wonderful. Not having to fuss with readjusting the straps if you wearing a hat or not having a hat on during the same hike. The different settings of the lamp is great too for night-time reading without blinding anyone and the long range of visibility helps when tramping through the woods. I love it!

I Have some other lights, like the Petzl E-light and Black Diamond Icon. I've been borrowing one of these Zipkas from a friend often in the cave, loved it, and broke down and got my own. These are great as secondary or back up lights on the helmet, and even better strapped around your wrist or hand. I am using this for a bit of technical work surveying underground, so I need to be able to light up a compass and inclinometer with free hands. This is the perfect tool for the job.
It stands up to dirt and mud pretty well, but the chord can get wet, and grime up the retractor with dirt. This could also stand to be more waterproof as there are holes directly into the battery compartment for the string to slide through. Not only are those holes a great place for water to get in, but they are also large enough to let a lot of dirt and dust in.

first I was skeptical about the whole wire thing, thinking it will dig into my head and won't be comfortable also it's a little more expensive with this setting compare to the one with normal strap.
after camping for 2 days I'm happy to report it was very comfortable even with my short hair and directly on my head.
white light is bright enough for any camping/hiking use but not for biking.
although the white light is very bright, red light is very weak and almost useless. usually I use a red light to do alot of stuff and not blind everyone around me but red light on zipka is only good for 2ft range.
another con is that you can't adjust the angle, not so critical but it's nice to have that opition.
retractable cord system is very nice and makes this light super small and it's also very comfortable, you don't even notice it but when you want to remove it, you better watch your fingers as it retracts very fast.
overall very nice light and I totally recommend it. 4 star only for the weak red light.

I love the original one because of the compact design and lack of a bulky strap. This new design adds a brighter bulb yet comparable battery life. It also adds the red light option which is polite to fellow campers but does not allow you to see in color. Best of all though is the battery low indicator which is great for me cause I never know when to charge my NiMH batteries. I think every person over 40 should have these around when you want to read small print. I own four older ones and very happy with upgrade. Great job petzl.

I own several different headlamp lighting systems, and I will say that is the best I have ever used. The beam is extremely bright for a light of its size, and the zipka style headband does not soak up the sweat or start to get funky like a typical elastic band. Get it!!

Excellent space reducing design. Good stability on the forehead. Handier than most because it is compact enough to keep with you. Mine is in my briefcase (power ever go out at work?), and will be a MUST have.
