I've only owned this for a week and already the rei logo and part of the trees are wearing off or smudging. i had this problem before with thier metallic mug as well. other than this problem tho it keeps the liquid hot for about 20-30 minutes, and could probably go longer if the lid had a closable hole and wasnt constantly open.

I would recommend this to a friend with a caveat. Know what you are buying. I bought this mug primarily so that I would stop using my nalgene bottles or my actual cooking pot as a cup or mug. I was going on a car camping trip with my girlfriend and her family and I decided I better class it up. Now I didn't want to pay for the sea to summit mug and after reading the reviews I wasn't even sure if it was worth it. All I knew is I wanted something that kept hot things hot and cold things cold with a lid. I didn't want something way over priced either.

after browsing around at my local REI I decided to settle my gaze on the REI Camp mug. It was cheap and the capacity didn't seem too bad, though I did know that what I was buying wasn't really meant for backpacking or hiking but I bought it anyways just for the trip and until I decided to go for a titanium mug or something along those lines.

Everything about this mug is average. It's just a mug that insulates your drink in a mediocre fashion while driving up weight. The one thing that I truly love about this mug is that the opening on the lid is amazing. REI does need to read this though, they need to get some of the GSI Infinity Insulated Mugs, they are at the same price point, hold way more, are way lighter and don't have a handle, now those are some amazing mugs, so if you're reading this and your an REI Staff member tell your boss that you need some of these mugs ASAP.

I'm sure there are a lot of well-made products from China. This isn't one of them. First time we used them with hot coffee, the nice tree stensil started to come off on our hands. You'd think they might have considered that the mug might be used with hot liquids.

I love this mug. I use it mostly at home and it is the prefect size for a cup of tea. It feels really good in my hand, it is well balanced and comfortable. It is my favorite mug and I use it everyday.

The color and tree print look pretty cool, and the mug works well enough and is insulated and is made of recycled materials (cool!). However, I wouldn't drop the dough on another. A:after about a week of uses, the print is wearing off, and you wouldn't think that would happen as "REI" logo is smudging atrociously as well. B: I packed in a hurry for a quick backpacking trip, where I, of course, realized how hella heavy this sucker is (too heavy to be not super great at insulating). C: it cleans nicely, but immediately the inside got kinda scratched up from a rego green sponge. All in all, we could all do better.

This mug just doesn't keep hot liquids hot for very long. I even try pre-heating it with boiling hot water from the office coffee maker but that doesn't help. 10-15 minutes after I pour hot coffe in, it starts turning lukewarm. I can't imagine how fast my coffee would get cold if I used it during cold-weather camping.

I suppose I shouldn't complain too much for a mug that was so inexpensive but I like REI-branded products - and I buy a lot of them - but this was a disappointment.

I found this mug to be the perfect size for my morning cup of coffee or tea, extremely durable and easy to clean. I don't know if the reviewers that complained of peeling trees got a bad batch or what, but I've used this mug almost daily for over a year with almost no signs of wear despite being subject to tumbles, falls, the dishwasher and the microwave. Also, the lid is very secure, and while it doesn't fit in the standard cup holders in my car it does fit in the larger pull out cup holder (due to the gap in the side of the holder that allows the handle to fit into the holder). If anything happened to my Camp Mug I wouldn't hesitate to replace it with another right away.

I drink tea/coffee everyday using this mug and love the durability, quality & recycled materials. A big con is the aforementioned smudged logo/trees when it gets warm. This does not happen when the mug is used for cold drinks. I bought 3 additional tall travel mugs with my order and they, too, are experiencing smudgy/sticky trees!

Bottom line, this is a great mug.
Does what a ceramic mug does, just better.
It has the same basic shape, price and thermal properties of the standard ceramic mug. It's also microwaveable like you ceramic mug.
However it's more durable (plastic and ceramic respond quite differently when they have an abrupt introduction to the kitchen floor), when the lid is used it will keep a hot beverage warmer for a little longer than a ceramic mug and it's made with recycled materials – you can't beat that.
