These poles have served me well over three telemarkin' years of heavy resort use, ski patrolling, and backcountry skiing. It bears noting that ski patrolling is tough on poles - lots of whacking ice-covered signs, etc. I love the versatility in length: I extend them for touring and tighten them down for the downhill. I've even used them for hiking. These puppies are great and I'm looking forward to buying my boyfriend a pair for Christmas. I hesitate to give them the full five stars because, like the reviewer below me, I did lose a basket once. Replacements were $6 and it never happened again.

These are great poles for cross country skiing and snowshoeing. My comment is to the person who gave a bad rating because he lost his baskets...you did not screw them on all the way. If you do, they are very secure. I almost made the same mistake!

I bought these as versatile poles that could be used telemarking both backcountry and at resorts. I lost both baskets on the first run! Black Diamond needs to work on how the baskets are attached. The baskets simply screw on via plastic threads -- not secure. I realize that the baskets need to be removable in order to use the probe pole feature, but there must be a better way.
