Comments about Garmin Topo United States 100K Maps DVD for PC/MAC:
As the other reviewers have mentioned, the map quality is terrible, and particularly apperent if you compare to recent paper quads. Everybody you ask in the store will tell you that it's Mac compatible, but this is nonsense. You'll have to use a PC to load it onto at least the 62sc.

Comments about Garmin Topo United States 100K Maps DVD for PC/MAC:
Honestly haven't put it to much of a test yet, but so far, I'm not seeing as much topographical detail as I expected. It's not like I'm seeing topo lines as I would on a paper topo map.
I find the documentation very weak.

Comments about Garmin Topo United States 100K Maps DVD for PC/MAC:
After reading all of the negative comments about the 2008 version of this software on the web, I thought that I would try the 2009 version, hoping for improvements. The user interface has changed. MapSource has been replaced by two applications: BaseCamp and MapInstall. I still prefer the old MapSource, but that may change as I explore the features of the new software. The bad news is that the map software has not changed. Everything bad that has been said of the 2008 software still applies. I conducted tests in Rocky Mountain National Park and western Boulder County. My position on the map was usually off by 300 to 500 feet with respect to man made and natural features. Depending on the time of day, the weather, and your physical condition at the time, this could range from inconvenient to dangerous. Also, many trails were missing, and some of the trails and secondary roads were based on information that was 40 years old or more. My recommendation: If the 24K software is available for your area, buy it. The 24K software is an excellent product. If you must use the 100K software, understand it's limitations and always carry a map and compass for backup.
