Comments about Black Diamond Ascension Nylon STS Skins:
After having an excellent history with an older set of Ascension skins I was talked into buying Dynafit skins for my Manuslu skis and Dynafit bindings. While both the bindings and the skis were superior at the the time and greatly enhanced my experience, I found Dynafit skins to be lacking the grip I needed on Mt. Shasta. It resulted in a twisted knee. At the time I didn't fully realize it was because I had grown to rely on the performance of my Ascension skins until one day when two friends and I were ascending Talac, one with Dynafit skins, my other friend borrowing my 10 year old Ascension skins that were still working great. My friend and I with the Dynafit skins also had ski crampons. When we encountered icy conditions my friend with my old Ascensions had grip and could keep on climbing. However my friend and I with the Dynafit skins and ski crampons finally had to resort to carrying our skis because our skins no longer gripped. For two seasons I have used Ascensions and noted a huge improvement in my climbing capabilities (don't even use ski crampons). The weight difference from Dynafit is negligible and is not worth the degradation in overall performance.

Comments about Black Diamond Ascension Nylon STS Skins:
i have been skiing since i was five, twenty years later i have just started into the back country. Skins have made climbing so much easier, lighter than snow shoes, fit any ski, and the online directions are super easy to follow. I had my skins set up and trimmed in 20 minutes. I have my skins set up on volkl skis, with marker barron bindings, for easy up hill walking and solid down hill performance.

Comments about Black Diamond Ascension Nylon STS Skins:
After years with bd ascensions I strayed and paid the price. Last season for example I tried the k2 skins and they were the worst. The glue would be non- functional after one run most of the time. I have experienced this with ascensions, but at the end of a full day of hiking. Even then you can deal because of the solid tip & tail connection points. Just carry some straps for securing the middle section.
How about skin glop? Ascensions come pre- treated to reduce the likelihood of glopping. FYI - on a warm day rub on your skin wax before your skins touch the snow. Other skins I have tried glop at the drop of a hat and skin wax doesn't seem to help.
Durability? You will skin over rocks, bushes, fences, girlfriends, etc. Burley skins are what you want. I am amazed at how my ascensions look like new after so much abuse.
The only complaint I have is with the skin savers. Last year my skin savers shredded and left bits of plastic all over the glue in my brand new skins. Bd replaced my skins under warranty. This year I am only using the skin savers for overnight storage and sometimes between the first few laps on a given day if it s really warm out or if it will awhile before they go back on. I have even thrown snow on the glue after the first lap to reduce the stickiness, but be careful with that approach as it could ruin the stick and get you stuck. I am experimenting to reduce my use of the skin savers because my new set is already coming apart.
