Comments about MSR Denali II Snowshoe Poles:

I've used these poles for 5 long trips so far. Once adjusted and on the snow they work great - little to no flex, baskets are a reasonable size, only slight vibration, grips OK, and they are light weight.

Getting to that point is another matter. The poles are long when compressed (I wish REI carried the MSR Denali III poles - those are three sections and compress more), and, if mounted on your pack, catch brush and tree branches when bushwacking on approach. Occasionally the twist-lock mechanism for adjusting length doesn't catch (although once locked I've never had them slip). The trick I've learned to help lock them is to slightly bend the pole while trying to twist the lock closed - so far this works everytime.

I still prefer the twist lock of these poles to the clip lock of some other brands. The clip lock mechanism is cumbersome and catches brush when in use.

In summary - as long as you know the costs/benefits of a two section pole versus a three section pole these are great poles. Benefits - light & you only adjust two locks per pair. Costs - long length when compressed.
