          Finally, a radio that actually offers real privacy while talking. The old style radios (even with so called privacy codes) are not private at all whatsoever. EXRS radios are! No one can listen, even with a scanner.
          These radios work great and have the same range as all the other two-way radios. I use them when camping, fishing, hunting and even when I go to shopping centers and big stores with my wife. The text messaging is great when you want to be silent. We also use the weather radio to keep track of incoming storms.
          And another thing – you don't need a license to use these radios. You do need one for the old style walkie-talkies.

          Good feature set. Poor performance.

          Purchased for all-day biking trips. Batteries lasted 4 hours or less on standby. When you go to call another unit, one or the other unit will likely be dead by then.

          Minor problem - high level of background noise, even with strong signal.

          Radio lacks protection against weather. With the loose-fitting battery cover off you can see into the guts of the radio.

            My wife and I both work within 5 miles from home. We had hoped to communicate simple things like, "get milk, or pick up son from day care" without having to use our cell phones. Having originally viewed the product in a REI winter catalog, I figured this to be the way of the future and may replace cell phones. Neither battery holds a charge for the whole day, and the reception will only work up to a half mile from home. I wish I'd saved my receipt and box! For all these bells and whistles, I can't seen to get it to whistle or ring....
