Comments about Highgear ZLED Micro Light - '08 Overstock:
The product seemed like a good idea, but actually using it was a disappointment.
1. The product is much bulkier than I thought it needed to be.
2. The compass seemed to catch on itself and was not very accurate.
3.The LED seemed bright when it worked. After a couple of pushes, the button got stuck and I was unable to turn the light on again.
Fortunately, REI has an awesome return policy and getting a refund was no problem.

Comments about Highgear ZLED Micro Light - '08 Overstock:
The light has been great. Better than other LED keychains I've used: very bright, good "throw" (lights up where you're walking), can be easily separated from it's base, and battery lasts a long time. Unfortunately... the compass is worse than useless- its simply not accurate- it does not typically point north. I don't understand this, because cheaper "button" style compasses work properly and this one doesn't.

Comments about Highgear ZLED Micro Light - '08 Overstock:
I bought two of the ZLEDs thinking I would have one as a back-up light and compass for backpacking and for ski patrolling.[...] I found air bubbles in both compasses making them completely useless for coarse direction indication. Although the LED lights were bright, I did not want a partially functioning piece of equipment. I was very surprised to see such a low quality item from a company like Highgear. I've owned and used a Summit altimeter watch from Highgear for the last 3 years and it's worked great. I promptly returned the ZLEDs [...]

Comments about Highgear ZLED Micro Light - '08 Overstock:
I've read the other comments. I've had no difficulty with this compass/light combination. Like all small compass of this type, it is possible for the needle to get "stuck" or otherwise hung up due to some internal friction. But I've never not been able to use it, or rely on it accurately pointing north. The LED light is bright and useful for map reading or illuminating a trail.
I have several of these and don't travel without them. I use them in wilderness areas as well as in urban areas that are unfamiliar to me. I think it's a great value!
