Comments about Jetboil Flash Java Kit:

I teach camping skills to new Boy Scout leaders in the OLS and BALOO program and I wanted a Jetboil to show leaders a great way to heat water for whatever they need: coffee, tea, or for meal purposes- cooking or heating water for clean-up.

Comments about Jetboil Flash Java Kit:

I received my Jetboil Flash Cooking System with Java Kit for a Christmas gift. I had been wanting one but was unsure about quality, reliability, size/weight and ease of use. I couldn't be happier with this cooking system! I love it and I'll never go packing without it. I am an adult Scout leader and we always try to "be prepared", but keep the pack size to a minimum. All of the components fit inside the Jetboil container including a can of cooking fuel and it is very light weight. At 1,200 feet of elevation I boiled approx 3 cups of water in a very short time. I didn't actually time it but it came to boiling temp in a shorter time than my gas range in my home could have done it. The insulated sleeve makes it comfortable to hold onto with hot contents. You can have your morning oatmeal and coffee made in just a few minutes. It's super easy to clean at home or even trail side. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is in the market for one. The cooking fuel canisters last a while as well. With 2 or 3 camping trips per month ranging from 2-3 nights each, I can get a fuel canister to last almost three months. Don't hesitate. You won't regret spending the money.

This has been a great little canister stove. The ignitor doesnt work all of the time (I have two of these units and have problems with it on both of them). I keep a box of matches in it, so I always have them. Other than that issue, i love it. It packs well and it light weight.

Comments about Jetboil Flash Java Kit:

            PROS:
i take this product with me on every backcountry trip winter summer or in-between. this product has one of the fastest boil times ive ever seen, even at altitude. its best for one pot meals where all you are doing is heating water, or making hot drinks. the Jetboil is extremely stable in all conditions, the pot even screws into the cooktop, a nice touch.
            CONS:
after 3 multiday trips the little clicker sparker that lights the fuel wihtout a match became completely useless. idk if its a flaw in my machine or a recurring problem but now i have to carry matches with me everywhere i go to light the darn thing!! a word of caution when i realized the starter had ceased to start the fire i proceeded to try to light it with my buddie's Jetboil. when i turned the lighted jetboil on its side the nice steady flame that normally eschews from the top turned into a huge orange ball of flame. i promptly returned the jeboil to its vertical state and everything went back to normal.. no need to worry!! also the french press device, A GREAT IDEA IN THEORY, does not work well. it does not fit very snug against the sides of the pot so after steeping the grounds and while filtering a lot of grounds would escape around the edge adding an extra crunch to my morning brew! a great stove in general just dont use the filter for your morning coffee.

Comments about Jetboil Flash Java Kit:

I bought the Jetboil Flash Java Kit instead of the regular Jetboil Flash because it was only $5 more on sale and included the java press that usually sells for $15 separate. I was looking for another stove/cook set to carry solo instead of my Brunton Raptor & GSI cook set that I usually carry (Excellent set for 2 or more people). The stove functions well, heats quickly, and stores easily. Unfortunately I haven't used the Java press yet. The built in neoprene cover works great and the temp indication is nice way to keep an eye on your stoves progress while doing other tasks. Another nifty feature is the tunnel pocket, it allows you to keep a full sized eating utensil with your stove. I really like having my light my fire titanium spork in its case with my stove. (I wish REI would carry the cases, and the titanium version in addition to the light my fire spork's they already carry) I highly recommend this stove / cook set for solo / minimalist use.

Comments about Jetboil Flash Java Kit:

I read another review in which the poster complained about the coffee grounds getting past the press. I also use a French press at home and initially had the same problem. Well I looked to the Jetboil website for the answer and here is the deal; you have to install the strainer with the flat side up. If you own a Bodum coffee press then this is counter intuitive because it is different than what you are used to. Once I flipped that rascal over I had great coffee with no grounds in my cup. Also, if you are not a regular French press user, then you should be warned that you need to grind your coffee more coarsely. My grinder has a French press setting and it is the most coarse setting on the machine. Cheers!

Have had the Jetboil java for a few years and meany miles. I want to start out by saying the stove is the simply the best. After a few practice runs, the time from setup to boil is easily under 3 minutes. I do highly recommend the stableiser kit if it is not included. The coffee press works well if you have the right size grind. Like everything, try it out before you go out on the trail.

Comments about Jetboil Flash Java Kit:

The stove is great. No complaints there. It lights quick and does it's job of heating water. The java system is not great though. I've worked in plenty of coffee shops and have a french press at home, so I know how to use one. However, there is no way to avoid grinds seeping through--or at least with the trial packet given with the system. For the future I will grind my own with a rougher crush of bean (not fine). I was disappointed that no matter how slow I plunged, grounds kept coming up.

Plus, if you put your fuel container in the way Jetboil designs the system to go together, you can't fit the java part in.

I'd recommend the stove, but the java part needs improvement, so I don't recommend this particular system unless you want to eat grinds.
