Comments about REI Airflyte Cap with eVent Fabric:
I tried on this hat in addition to the Marmot PreCip cap. The PreCip cap had a velco adjustment strap in the back that worked, but this one has a reflective strap & flip buckle that has a wider adjustment range.
Also this cap came down further on my head than the Marmot cap, which felt like it was just barely perching on top - I didn't like the feel of it. This Airflyte cap's brim also fit more snugly around my forehead.
I usually wear a Large in hats, though my head's fairly narrow. With this cap I have the adjustment strap snugged up so I could only tighten it another 1.5" before I hit the other side of the cap, but if I needed to let it out there's another 4.25" of strap available. Though if you did this, I don't think it would come down very far on your head.
A bit of water poured onto the top of the hat (above one of the seams even), just beaded up & stayed in a puddle.
The reflective 'hits' in the product description should probably be 'trim'. Not only does the strap have a reflective stripe down the center, but the REI logo is reflective (it sits at the back of the cap, on the right hand side).
Plus what can't be seen in the product photo, the bill itself has a reflective strip. The top and bottom of the bill are black eVent fabric, but they don't meet in the middle... looking at the brim straight on is a reflective strip about 1/8" wide.
I wish it came in more colors than just black, but that's only a personal cosmetic concern. :)
This hat will be great underneath my Taku jacket's hood while hiking in downpours (a hood alone doesn't keep my glasses dry).
The hat plus a hoodless fleece jacket will be great for lighter rain.

Comments about REI Airflyte Cap with eVent Fabric:
Purchased this hat specifically for a longer run, knowing that it was going to completely pour on me during the three and a half hours out. I believe this hat is the ONLY thing that didn't succumb to the torrential rain I encountered. Even though I was soaked, my head was still warm and fairly dry. It was a welcome relief during the run (low 40's, rain downpours, windy.) I also wore this hat with wrap-around-the-ear headphones/glasses and everything fit together just fine. The brim was also just long enough to keep 95% of the rain off of my glasses, a definite plus!
