The e-Moto Velocity 2.0 bike provides an extra boost of powered assistance to get you conveniently around town, to the store or through your daily commute.

  • Electric-assist design utilizes a battery powered motor to take the strain off a long commute, haul groceries or simply make quick, easy work of hills
  • Powerful 36V 9Ah Panasonic lithium ion battery powers the 250W high-torque brushless rear hub motor; battery can be quickly and easily detached from frame
  • VPAC torque sensor intelligently senses the amount of pressure being put on the pedals and automatically adjusts the amount of power input from the motor
  • This means that when you start to push harder on the pedals to get up a hill, the system knows to drive more power to the assist motor, taking the strain off you
  • Maximum range of the pedal-assist feature is 35 miles: if you run the pedal assist constantly while pedaling for 35 miles, the battery will be drained
  • Motor assist tops out at a safe speed of 15 mph and also instantly cuts power to the motor once you stop pedaling, keeping you in control
  • Keep tabs on how much battery power you have left with the handlebar mounted charge indicator; battery cycle life is 600 - 1,000 charges
  • Recharging the battery is quick and easy: plug charger into 110 - 240V outlet and connect the battery; if battery is fully drained it will take 3 - 4 hrs. to recharge
  • With a quick flip of a switch above the battery pack, the electric power-assist feature can be turned off if you wish to pedal the bike without it
  • Upgraded aluminum frame stands up to the demands of urban use and provides comfortable, stable handling; suspension fork soaks up bumps and jolts
  • Ride long into the night with confidence thanks to front-hub-powered incadescent headlight and LED tail light
  • Shimano Altus rear derailleur quickly shifts through the 7 different pedaling gear combinations; chainguard keeps clothes tidy and out of the drivetrain
  • Tektro V-brakes supply smooth, dependable deceleration
  • Kenda K Series puncture-resistant tires and self-sealing tubes ensure solid protection against flats
  • Suspension seatpost and Velo Sport gel saddle with springs keep your rear end supported and comfortable; angle-adjustable stem offers a precise fit
  • Rear rack and fenders are included for excellent utility right out of the box; integrated kickstand keeps bike upright for parking and storing convenience
  • Specs are subject to change

After its initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. Contact your nearest REI bike shop for details and an appointment for this important service.

Comments about Urban Mover UM44S Sprite Electric Assist Bike - 2009:

I live just close enough to work that I could take a bike instead of driving. The thing is, I sweat wayyyy too easily so I first considered a scooter. After some research, keeping up with maintenance, storage, and having to get a license if the scooter was 50cc+, I figured it wasn't worth it.Then I came across some electric bikes. I did my research once again and found that domestic electric bikes are not as efficient as European. I got the latest model of this bike from REI.com. This bike comes with a wheel lock, a chain to lock the bike up, front LED light powered by the front wheel, and a back light that is powered by the vibrations of riding.I just took the bike out today for about an hour (the longest I have used this bike so far) I probably road about 5 miles (maybe more) with many MANY hills and the battery still has about 3/4ths of a charge left.Just to see how much I was being spoiled by this electric assisted motor, I turned off the battery at one point and it was so difficult. That's how you know you get your moneys worth!Anyways, the way the bike works is that the moment you start peddling the motor will kick in and boost you speed so that you can peddle comfortably while maintaining a speed of about 15 mph. Even up hill, you may not go 15mph but you do about 5 - 10 (depends on the hill) which is awesome. While riding my bike today I passed all the other bikers on the trail while going up hill and I watched their faces becomes confused because they have no idea how I look so calm while moving faster than the rest of them. It was awesome![...].In conclusion, I love this bike and it seems like it will last me a long time.

Comments about Urban Mover UM44S Sprite Electric Assist Bike - 2009:

I was riging mostly for leasure, I got it as a gift, but would hope to have receive a different electric bike. I know that some other are very bad, but you can find some good one made in Canada that are lighter, more fun to ride. This one is really not giving me what I was looking for.

Comments about Urban Mover UM44S Sprite Electric Assist Bike - 2009:

I'd have written a review for this bike earlier, because I LOVE it so, but I know you're here to read comparisons with other e-bikes, not about how awesome it is to have pedal-assist.Now I can actually say something to that end. Last week, I called up the company to get another charger cable. They're based in the Seattle area, and the fellow answering the phone was absolutely down-to-earth and wonderful. [...] I was only charged REI's wholesale price. Totally, totally reasonable. It actually made my day.NB: I own the 2.5 Velocity -- the ladies' version of this bike. REI seems to have run out of those since I bought it here. I can't compare with other e-bikes, but it's definitely heavy for a bike. My arms are stronger for carrying it up my steps all the time now, though. What's also not clear from the description online is how complete the bike is: front and back lights, rack and bungee cords in the back, built-in lock for the back wheel, even a bell!
