    This thermos is purported to hold 16 ounces, allowing enough capacity to hold a full 15 oz. soup can. Soup is a great way to go during a backcountry ski (my use) as it helps to both fuel and rehydrate you. REI separately sells a great 15 oz. flip-top vacuum tumbler, but the capacity is neither as large as the Stanley nor does it have the awesome integrated serving cap of the Stanley. Like the REI tumbler, the Stanley maintains heat exceptionally. I place it in the snow while I eat successive pours of soup until I'm finished - it has never gone cold. I used it in a whiteout just the other day when I could only find a meager treed windbreak. I have the SS Stag designed model.

    If you're looking for a thermos to only hold drinking beverages, the REI Flip-Top Vacuum Tumbler is the way to go. However, if you are looking for a thermos to hold soup or pre-warmed brothy foods, it doesn't get better than this. Weight-wise, you couldn't rationalize carrying this on a multiple day trip, but for single day trips it cannot be beat. I carry this unit plus a drink tumbler for quick access when I go out for day outings.
