Comments about CamelBak Insulated Stainless-Steel Better Bottle - 17 oz.:
Convinced that this will be the last bottle I will own - Finally a company has mixed stainless with insulation, and Camelbak took it one step further by making it sharp looking as well. Holds cold OR hot products near entry temp for extended periods of time (4+ hours), super light, ultra durable...What more can I say?

Comments about CamelBak Insulated Stainless-Steel Better Bottle - 17 oz.:
Lecturing and teaching in a high school is a water intensive activity. Talk for eight hours straight, and you'll need a beverage. My grade book and papers were covered with small stains from my sweaty single-wall Camel bottle. Oh how I dreamed that Camelbak would make a double-wall bottle out of stainless. And then they did!
Ice will keep for about 16 hours. Since the bottle volume is low, minimizing the number of cubes is the route to take. Ice cube minimization also aids with straw insertion. If the cubes fuse, a firm but gentle tap on the counter usually frees the ice and creates space for the straw. If I'm out and about, I'll bring a reserve bottle of water to top this one off. (At school, I have access to a refrigerator for refills.) The bottle is a good size for gripping, and I wouldn't trade to a larger size for more capacity.
The Camelbak bite valve system is great for saving your lipstick, and any lipstick transfer comes off the valve easily. I've only ever had mild leaking inside my school bag, and happened when the bottle wound up on its side in the bottom of the bag for over an hour. The papers in my bag had a mild damp feeling, but no real staining.
The height and girth of the bottle is not very compatible with the cup holder design in my 2001 Civic. It's too tall to keep the valve flipped up while it's in the holder, and the bottle won't "settle" into the tapered cup holder. It has pitched into the floorboard when taking tight corners or hitting potholes. (This more of a flaw in the cup holder than it is in the bottle.) If you want a bottle for commuting and your cup holder situation is tight, this might not be the choice for you. However, the bite valve system is great while driving because you don't need to raise the bottle into your field of vision while drinking.
The bottle does not fit the cage on my bike, but I didn't buy it with that in mind. Honestly, this would not be my go to bottle for extensive outdoor recreation. This is a product that excels at academic pursuits: no sweating, rarely leaks inside a bag, changes classes without drama, and keeps my lipstick on.

This is one fantastic water bottle! It does not sweat, feels good in the hand, and keeps water cold for several hours (10+ hours). I originally bought one for my wife and was so impressed that I had to order another for myself, and a couple more as gifts for our dads. Just go ahead and pick yourself up one of these gems. You will not be disappointed.

I love the bottle because it keeps water cold for extended periods of time. I put ice cubes and water in it, left in the garage (NO AC) for over 24 hours, in Texas heat (95-100+). The water was still drink-ably cold.
But the bottle won't fit well in traditional bottle cages, such as the King Iris Cage. However, fits well in plastic cages, such as the one made by Klean Kanteen.
So, if function and looks are both equally important and you want to use a steel cage, you may be out of luck. Otherwise, I would say, go for it :)

I use this daily, I always have it with me. I drink a lot of water and powdered drinks such as iced tea. I use this in and out of the house exclusively. In fact I don't use any other glasses for cold drinks I have to schedule it to go into the dishwasher :) I am sure you get the idea.
I agree with the other posts except hot drinks. I am not sure if my coffee was just too hot, but the plastic pieces got soft and gave off a slight flavor/odor. For cold drinks, it is as described. 4hrs in a black truck in 95deg, and there was still ice.

I bought one of these because I wanted a bottle that would keep my water cold/cool. After reading the reviews this looked like the unit for me. Except for being rather small, only about 16-17 oz it is great. It keeps the water cool under extreme conditions. I was going to an afternoon baseball game and I filled it with cold water and 3 ice cubes in the morning and after the game, about 8+ hours later, I got to the car and although the outside was almost too hot to hold the water was nice and cool and very refreshing. Under normal conditions, commuting, shopping, driving around, I have had ice cubes last 2-3 hours. this unit is great. If it was bigger it might be too heavy so being this size I fill it more often maybe but has the best insulation I've seen for cold liquids. I bought one for the gal friend too, she loves it.

The bottle really does keep beverages cold. Unfortunately, metal water bottle cages don't hold it very well. I replaced mine with plastic cages, and one of the bottles fell out when I went over a rather nasty bump. Another reviewer suggested trying water bottle cages by Klean Kanteen - I tried, they're too narrow. While the bite-valve is up to the usual Camelbak standards, the lid assembly is more than a cyclist would need - all the extra stuff gets in the way. I see an opportunity for Camelbak to fill a niche. They might want to consider manufacturing their own cage for this bottle, as well as a lid designed specifically for cyclists.

Comments about CamelBak Insulated Stainless-Steel Better Bottle - 17 oz.:
My biggest complaint with this bottle is not the size (which is small considering how much water I drink daily), but that the lid leaks! Whether I'm driving or picking the bottle up from my nightstand, I can be assured that my lap will be splattered with about 2 cc's of water from water that escapes from pressure valve on the lid. I can deal with a [$] water bottle that is low capacity and keeps temperature well, but not one which consistently dumps water on me. The insulating feature and convenience of the bite valve are not worth a wet lap. This one is going back to REI.Used for three months.

I've purchased four of these- two as gifts for others, and one for myself and my wife. We have used them in trekking- filling in clean streams (Norway). However, their primary use for us is as coffee thermoses while commuting. How nice to have a thermos that you can sip out of without tilting...the straw is the ticket here. It is VERY practical for this task- and I think the volume is about right for a "grande" on the way to the office!
We've had no problems cleaning the lid and straw (separated) in the top rack of the dishwasher.
