Rated 2 out of 5 by from Decent Boot Bought these at the recomendation of an REI rep. Not knocking this guy, he provided as much info as he had. Initially I was thinking I had found a super new boot, but soon learned that my feet were soaked inside the boot and there was no wicking action at all. I wear different brands of boots, Asolo, La Sportiva and Keen and have not experienced this issue at the level I did with these. I would recomend these to a freind whose feet don't sweat a lot....

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Save your money I bought these for a long section hike on the AT through TN and NC. I bought up a half size, which worked well for those toe banging descents. I gave them a month breaking in period, used for many day hikes and overnighters, averaging about 15 miles a day. Unfortunately, I didn't hike during foul weather during the break in period, otherwise I would have returned them before heading to TN (my bad). First of all, these things are hot. They make your feet sweat like a sauna, and damp feet = hot spots and blisters. I was a bit concerned about this issue during the break in period, but I am pretty good with foot maintenance, and was able to prevent blisters with a bit of sports tape to the hot spots. On the section hike, these boots were horrible. We had rain while hiking northbound on the ascent up Roan Mountain, which turned into a full on storm about a third of the way across the bald. These things performed terribly when wet. The treads were slippery, causing several falls down wet scree (trekking poles saved me a few times, but not every time), and the gortex liners insured a swampy interior as soon as the trail was puddled. The dry time for the boots was awful, and even when propped by the fire, it took THREE days to get them dry enough to be comfortable. even though I used hydropel, and balm on my feet at night, the swampiness of the boots lead to maceration, and blistering. Very uncomfortable. The shank was soles were too soft, and I felt every rock and root the AT is notorious for, leading to incredibly sharp nerve pains in my feet. I hike light, and should have stuck with my trail runners. Thought I would need additional ankle support, but now know I could have managed with a lighter running shoe. The plus side of trail runners is that though they wet out more quickly, the mesh also sheds water much more efficiently, and you can have dry feet in a matter of hours once the rain ends. With day upon day of rain, runners dry out over night every time, whereas these boots just stay swampy and foul. I am returning these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A pleasant surprise I bought these right before a last minute trip to Arizona. I had procrastinated on buying a new pair of boots so this happened to be the only pair I really liked in the 2 hrs. I had to shop. The REI tech swore I wouldn't have to break them in and I was really skeptical so I bought some liner socks and mole skin just in case. Voila, no need to break them in! They served me well in my two days of hiking in Sedona and the Grand Canyon (in snow and ice mind you!). If I had a complaint or two...they were stiff in the ankle a bit too much but eased up by the second day. Also, they are very waterproof and my feet did get warm/wet from sweat at times even in the snow. Bottom line, I highly recommend these. The soles and heel especially feel solid and are top notch!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Durability was the problem for me The boots were comfortable, and the light weight was refreshing compared to my old heavyweight leather boots. However, after 2 day hikes at Mt. Hood and a 6-day backpacking trip in the Olympics, the rubber at the toe was separating from the rest of the boot. Obviously they needed to be returned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent hiking boot in many climates I rarely write product reviews, but I've been so pleased with these I feel obligated. I purchased these boots after moving to Colorado, looking for a comfortable and supportive hiking boot for day hikes and occasional backpacking over rough terrain. After a slightly uncomfortable break-in period of a few hikes (~15 miles total) these have been extremely comfortable. Ankle support is good, and traction is excellent on all surfaces including rock, both wet and dry. On a recent trip to Scotland I wore them on multiple rainy hikes through ankle-deep water and muck in the bogs of the Highlands. I never had a drop of water inside these boots. Fantastic performance!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best boot in a long time Very strong, comfortable, stable, supportive boot. Not too heavy, but not lightweight. No break-in period required. I used it it for hiking in the Sierras and up Mt. Whitney. The only down side is that the rubber flap that comes up over the toe seperates from the shoe quickly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Get something else I love Oboz shoes. Just not this one. Didn't even take it out of the store. Get the Yellowstone II mid instead (I just bought my second pair of Yellowstones; parting with the first was like losing an old friend).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First Pair of Boots First pair of hiking boots and I wore them everyday to work as well as the occasional hiking trip on the weekend. No break-in time, comfortable, and still holding up well after a year of use.
