The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Oboz Sawtooth Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I bought these at REI about a month before climbing Mt. Katahdin in Maine, thinking I'd need time to break them in a little. No need. The breakin period was almost non existent. They really felt very comfortable from the start.
They give good ankle support, and traction whne clinbing over lots of rock (and beleive me, I climbed plenty of rock going up Katahdin). I know the waterproofing works well, as I climbed Mt. Monadnock in the rain and stepped in plenty of puddles along the way. My feet stayed relatively dry (only damp from sweat).
I had looked into a pair of Asolo boots when buying these. They certainly are good boots, but they were just not as comfortable as my Oboz. And they were harder to lace. These things lace up in a heartbeat. No having to tug at every lace to tighten them.
Not sure what the last person was commenting about with the seam giving blisters on the back heel. I haven't experienced any of that and I've climbed several mountains with these now.
Great boot. I'd recommend them in a heartbeat.

Comments about Oboz Sawtooth Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
The most stable and supportive mid I have ever worn!! I have been very pleased with this boot and would recommend this one for any type of hiker looking for some extra ankle support or a fast and light boot. The only quibble I had was that on really cold days( -10) the rubber became hard and I slipped around a little, not a big deal in the long run.

Comments about Oboz Sawtooth Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I wanted to get some real hiking boots after wearing trail runners that didnt fit properly.
I headed to my local(santa ana) REI to try some on and ended up trying on about 8 different boots and ended up that only this one and a garmont boot were the only ones where my toes wouldnt hit the front while descending. These felt much more like a glove compared to the garmont that felt much more voluminous.
The sole took a bit getting used to as it was easier to roll because there wasnt a defined edge, but after a day of wearing them i barely noticed it.
I would definitely recommend this boot if it fits your foot.

Comments about Oboz Sawtooth Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
These shoes are lightweight, waterproof, supportive, and look great. Unfortunately, they have a killer seam right down the Achilles tendon that will give you some wicked blisters if there's any heel slip at all. I thought it was just the one pair, so I picked up a second in case the first was defective. After the second started breaking in, I had the same problem. Taking the second pair back and seeing what else we can come up with. Shame, really.
It's also worth mentioning that this is a higher volume boot. I had to lace these up mountaineer style and tug the living hell out of the strings to get the shoe to stay cinched down at all. Might do better for someone who doesn't have little skinny baby feet, but take them for a walk around the store to be sure.

In planning my first 50+ mile trip, it was time for me to find a good pair of boots that wouldn't break the bank. I tried (and returned) 3 other brands before I found these. They were the perfect balance of support and comfort for me. After over 200 miles, I love these boots more than at first. The multiple lace points allow easy micro-adjustments. The tread is not too stiff but has been awesome on multiple terrain.
I have gotten heel blisters after 20+ miles without using moleskin, but I think this is due more to getting boots 1/2 size too big. I've started tying the laces at the lower and upper ankle and this has made a noticeable difference.

Comments about Oboz Sawtooth Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I purchased these on the recommendation of the REI employee who knew a substantial amount about them and the Oboz company. I'm a faithful Salomon size 11 wearer for their great fit but needed something a little more substantial than the Salomon XA Pro 3D Mid GTX Ultra Hiking Boots offered. I purchased the Oboz in size 11 despite reading the online reviews/complaints about the rear seam. I have to say these are some of the most comfortable boots I have worn. Perfect fit, no issues at all with the rear seam, no heel slippage, just a great boot. I wore them from 730am to 930pm the first time and my feet never felt tired or sore. I now understand why the sales person told me that people that have these boots come in wanting to buy another pair exactly like they already have because I too will be back for another pair.

I really wanted to like these shoes... they felt good in the store, and even now (after returning) I still believe they fit well without heal slip or pain in my toes. The problem was that on uphill sections, the seam in the heal dug into me just a little too much. I gave the a number of tries on 5 to 7 mile hikes with moderate elevation gain... tried multiple lacing techniques and tried multiple combination of liner and hiking socks. Just couldn't avoid blisters on my heals so I've returned them.
Other than the comfort in the heal, they felt supportive, waterproof (had one day where I was practically wading through a stream for the entire hike) and built well (as I can tell in the 20 miles I hiked with them.

Comments about Oboz Sawtooth Mid Hiking Boots - Men's:
I don't usually spend [$] on a boot. Based on the reviews here and suggestions from REI staff I decided to give this one a try. After 10 days of steadily wearing the boot on the street, in snow, around the house, and climbing steep pumice hills I could not get comfortable with it. It is a tall boot and could give good ankle support. If I laced it up to get the ankle support it was too stiff to properly "break" as I walked. The boot is claimed to be waterproof. Ha! Today we were going into town and about 6 inches of new snow was predicted. Took the "new" Oboz instead of the beloved Sorels. My feet got wet walking around in fairly dry snow. The heel cup was comfortable but the sole was like a rock. The soles also showed signs of significant wear after just 10 days. The toe box seemed big but really squeezed my little toes. For others this boot might be the one, but for me it did not work. I will return it to REI and try something else.
