Comments about Hurricane Kayaks Santee 116 Sport Kayak:
We are paddling primarlly flat water on lakes or slow moving rivers. Have taken them on some class 1-2 waters in a very rocky river that moved about 8 MPH, banged into some big rocks but the boats seemed to take it fine. Boats are very stable, move thru the water nicely and track fine. I have paddled with our dog, a Border/Golden mix, 40 LBS, once she got down on her belly eveything was fine and the boat still tracked nicely.
Perfect for what we wanted and beatuiful boats to boot !

Comments about Hurricane Kayaks Santee 116 Sport Kayak:
This is my first kayak. I bought it on impulse as my GF wanted to look at a kayak for herself. I walked into an area of used kayaks and this one I had to have at first sight.
This kayak is light and fits in the back of my pickup with no special racks necessary. I only use it on lakes and it can skim along in less than a foot of water. The seat and holders are durable and comfortable and the storage area is plenty for a day trip. I love it and if it ever wears out I will find another just like it.

Comments about Hurricane Kayaks Santee 116 Sport Kayak:
I bought this as a graduation gift to myself as my first kayak (I've been kayaking many years & had an idea what I was looking for). I wanted a kayak big enough for my Australian Shepherd (med sized dog) to come with me on rivers & lakes & that I could take out for overnight camping. It is NOT designed for pets. While it is large enough for him to sit & somewhat lay in, dogs don't lay 100% even weight distribution, so when he rides with me, the tracking is AWFUL!! We just basically paddle in circles, which it does very well. When he isn't with me, the cockpit is HUGE so water from the paddle gets all inside & there aren't spray skirts big enough. Since the cockpit is so huge, I can't reach the front bow & there is no place to store/keep a map-no front rigging. Since I go out with my four-legged companion, he often gets excited at waterfowl & sits up quickly, knocking the paddle. A paddle clip/holder would be very useful! It definitely needs the lock bar as mine was stolen from my SUV after the first time I used it. Luckily I got it back! :-)
However, I LOVE the lightweight-edness of it as I can easily lift it onto my SUV or storage racks by myself, as a woman. I also really like the cup holders & storage cubbies on the sides of the seat. The seat adjustments are really easy & the seat is really comfortable. The best part is probably the dual hatches. The rear hatch is visible in the picture & provides good storage. BUT there is also a forward hatch in front of your feet. It is small but provides great waterproof storage for weekend trips. Overall great boat.
I would recommend maybe a tandem kayak if you are looking for a boat for your dog? I've never tried it so I'm not sure if you'd have the same tracking problem. I wouldn't recommend this boat for a dog larger than a football. I suggest this boat for larger framed men (ease of getting in & out) and the regular Santee 116(not the Sport) for large framed women (like me) for the smaller cockpit but more great features.

Comments about Hurricane Kayaks Santee 116 Sport Kayak:
I kayak in both Vermont and Oregon. I bought this model in vermont and liked it so well that I bought another one for here in Oregon where I live full time. I can heartily endorse this kayak and have used it on rivers, lakes and coastal marshes. I think that it provides the best combination of price, weight, stability and ease of use. I am older so I appreciate the large cockpit for ease of entry and exit. It is also a sharp looking boat (I have it in Mango and red). This boat tracks very well for its length. I have recently went on a 3 and 1/2 mile (one way, 7 mile total)paddle on a nearby river with ease. It is just a fine all around Kayak for the money.

Comments about Hurricane Kayaks Santee 116 Sport Kayak:
I bought the Santee because it was short and light, and was made in the USA. The quality is excellent and the kayak is extremely stable and entry and exit are very easy.
