Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 34'' Inseam:
The Old models made 2 years ago were better made. I have both grey and beige. In the new model I need to wear any XL, in the old model I wore an "L". I found the new styles in ashphalt grey to have 1) leg width was 2 inches more narrow 2) zip off pant legs needs to be lowered about 2 inches for a longer pair of shorts when in use and 3)front 2 pockets were very shallow, like for a regular type of pants. Your wallet will fall out when you sit down or lean back and sit to rest. The old style pockets were as sewn down the inside along the leg, to the height of the zip off seam (very long), so you could put your wallet or valuable items like your wallet, a passport and boarding pass down the pocket.
I always separate my passport from my laptop case, briefcase or even any passport holder. This security of your passport and wallet, is your "lifeline" for any world traveler in today's world. You cannot do this with the new model. Columbia zip off pants have the same problem. This is most likely a design change by someone who does not place valuable items in their pants, or is not a "world traveler". Use of the bottom velcro leg pocket is a "give away" you have something there especially a "wallet" as a target, for someone to "target" and cut open with a razor when passing you and you wont even feel the cut, when your wallet and/or money falls out.
The top zipper pocket is the best pocket design and location for easy access of important items like a small pocket knife, keys or a cell phone. Your forearm and elbow will "tell you its there in front of you", and the zipper pocket does keep items safe, secure and "against" your body frame, not loosely hanging in a visable pants pocket. It is still a very well made pair of pants as I have worn through my old designed pairs, as I have bought several for travel and work for over the last 5 years. Great for camping, hiking, boating, outdoors and Travel.
The inside seat gusset type of sewing with an extra piece of fabric (the only brand/item/model that has this design) makes this pants easy to sit, squat, kneel, and to lift your knees and legs in any direction with good comfort and fast movement if needed in any situation.... same pants design as a Karate, Judo, or Aikido uniform. Easy to wash and wear with quick drying nylon fabric.
The in place nylon belt that comes with the pants is also a great design, for going through an airport screening without having to take off your belt and have to worry about your comfort or loose fitting pants falling down, which saves time if you think in advance of what goes on at an airport security screening, but you can still put a belt on since the pants have belt loops.
This is the best design traveling pants over all other brands. Please tell the product designers and pattern makers to help with some adjustments in the legs, pocket and to add another color like "dark navy blue", as they have a great product! I will buy another pair for myself and friends!
The Women's Paramount pants design does "Not" have "any" of the same features as the Men's pants. Only the name is the same and is made of different fabric and very limited in features/pockets. I would buy this for my wife and female co-workers, "if" you can add "all" of the same Men's Paramount Pants features, design, sewing, gusset in seat, pockets, zippers, quality and more colors...and adjustments. Help!!!

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 34'' Inseam:
I have had these pants for about three weeks and I really enjoy them. I use them 2-3 times a week on off trail night hikes or a weekend trip.
They are comfortable, well made and sturdy. I have a pair of lightweight REI brand pants of near the same make, but I rarely use them and instead wash these after each use.
The zippers are strong, no issues there. The included belt does a great job of getting the fit just right so I havent had need for the belty loops.
The darker color looks nice and fits in fine around town or on the trail.
Overall I am very happy with these pants and will continue to use them multiple times a week.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 34'' Inseam:
I recently went for a 3-day backpack trip in the Ventana Wilderness here in California. Due to the amount of rain this year the trails were very overgrown.
These pants were a life saver.
I hiked through water, high grass, brush, off trail and u and down ridges and the pants held up very well.
I changed to my REI Sahara pants and within 45 minutes I changed back to these pants because I was poked and scratched by branches and sweated through the material.
Go out and get yourself a pair or three!!!

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 34'' Inseam:
At first I was looking at the generic brand convertible pants, and thought the material was a bit flimsy. After picking up this North Face pair, I am glad I made the investment. The material is sturdy and perfect for rugged hikes or backpacking. The pants convert easily and quickly into shorts, and they definitely do not look awkward when in the shorts version, they look like a regular pair of hiking shorts! The elastic band makes it extremely comfortable and the included belt allows easy adjustment. This is the best investment I've made for camping/hiking equipment yet!

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 34'' Inseam:
I wear these pants everywhere. I am a contractor by trade and wear them in the field, and on the trails. There is nothing more comfortable and breathable than these pants.
I have owned numerous versions of the zip off pants. By far these are the best. I owned the older versions with the deep pockets, and unlike another reviewer, I love the new changes to smaller pockets. They were too deep. If I put anything in my front pockets, I would have to dig down to my knees to get it out. I like the new zipper pocket.
They feel light but keep the cold air out, convert to shorts when it's too hot, and are very very durable. I definitely recommend these over any other light zip off pants.
Even when it's hot I don't feel the need to zip off the pant legs because they breathe so well.
I wish they came in other colors so I wasn't always wearing tan or gray everyday.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 34'' Inseam:
I have two pair of these pants, one from about 2005-2006 and one from 2010. The older ones are WAY better than the newer ones. The newer ones do not fit as well and overall quality seems to have declined- stitches come out much more easily and the zippers seem cheaper. Becoming a fashionable brand is the worst thing that ever happened to The North Face. This is really unfortunate since the older pair are getting quite long in the tooth. I loved them so much I wore them out.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 34'' Inseam:
These are quite good pants. I bought them for a 9-day excursion in the Isle of Skye in Scotland. We hiked, scrambled, and did some climbing, and they held up to all of it. They dry very quickly after becoming wet or even soaked. In warmer weather, they feel very light and breathable. They repel the wind pretty well as well. The material is fairly strong, though I've seen stronger in some of the Swedish brands of hiking pants. But the value for price is excellent. Oh and the fit is excellent - especially considering I usually have fit problems in the groin and upper thigh region. I'm 6'4" and 185 lbs, so I needed this longer version of the pant.
Do not expect these to be completely waterproof. They are not. They are just water resistant. We got stuck in several big downpours (welcome to Scotland) and they got drenched. You'll want to wear full rain pants over or instead of these once the rain starts falling heavily, or at least make sure you have wool on underneath. I did not remove any stars for this, as the product is not supposed to perform like rain pants.
The only real reason I give them 4 stars is that they don't look all that great and the material probably won't hold up to frequent scrambling and climbing. I have already noticed some slight wear along the thigh. I'd love if they could double as a reasonably good looking travel pant for backpacking between cities. They don't look bad, but they certainly don't fit fashionably.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 34'' Inseam:
I'm glad North Face at least gives the 34" inseam option on a one of their pants - wish they did on them all...
I agree with previous reviews in that, the model of this pant from two or three years ago was a much better fit in my opinion, as I still have my darker color from that said season and wear them every other day.
The front feels a bit tighter than previous models, with the front pockets offset more to the side, and frankly a bit awkward I feel.
However, these are just minor things I'm picking out, and overall will gladly buy this pant again (if needed that is - my pair for a couple years ago still looks great). And also, the North Face fit still wins out over all other brands... sorry REI, I really wanted to buy yours first :) but the Adventure pants are just too tight for me.
I hope this review helps you - really is an awesome pant - you'll be happy.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 34'' Inseam:
I have the older model and I like them a lot. At first I thought they weren't going to last but they are doing pretty good after 18 months... The only problem is the zipper. The one on the right leg snapped after getting hitched by a rose. I thought it was ridiculous that a thorn could stand stronger than the plastic zipper. I'm still able to close it but sometimes it comes undone from the wrong end which can be very annoying.

Comments about The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pants - Men's 34'' Inseam:
We have purchased a number of pairs for our teenager and they have held up very well. Lightweight for packing, zip-offs are handy and very durable. Frequently worn for campouts & travel and they have come back EXTREMELY dirty/grass-stained, etc. Always clean up very well and no problem with stains. My personal favorite is the dark gray color as they look a little bit nicer. Love that long length is available.
