The first thing that you notice about this jacket when you pick it up in the store is how light it is. The jacket is true to size and is meant to be worn as an inside layer and hence will not accommodate too many layers underneath. I usually wear it over two thin layers and then a shell on top. This is usually enough to keep me warm up to 32 if I m not moving. I get very cold when I m not moving. The jacket is immensely warm for its weight. I would it rate it as warm as a 200 fleece jacket with definitely more wind resistance. It breathes extremely well. The inner surface of the jacket feels very comfortable. I once wore it against my skin and did not feel clammy or uncomfortable at all. It incorporates stretchy breathable panels under the arms made of Polartec Power Stretch. Clearly it is made to be worn during periods of intense activity. It performs admirably under those conditions. It dries very quickly after being washed. It looks pretty durable but that is something I cannot comment on as I have owned it only for a month and half but have used it extensively during this time both as activewear in windy winter conditions as well as out on the town. The outer shell is made of durable nylon but is pretty thin and is both wind and water resistant. The rose bush outside our door almost killed the jacket. The insulation that Arcteryx uses is 60 gm/m2 of Coreloft. Coreloft is similar to Primaloft but incorporates some changes that makes it more durable than Primaloft with out losing the loft. The fibers are silconized so that they repel moisture. All in all it is a great product and I wouldn't waste time thinking too much before buying it. Make sure you get the right size. The light weight will make sure you take it where you go and thus you WILL end up using it a lot more that your heavier jackets.

I bought this to replace my old Mountain Hardware softshell. This thing is so far and away better than any jacket I've ever had. My only caveat is that on very cold days (25 or below) or very wet days it's not enough on it's own, but with a rain jacket on over it, it really doesn't get any better than this thing. I spend a lot of time on my bike, and on windy winter days it's hard to find something that can stand up to the infamous Chicago headwinds, but I'll never need to look further than this jacket. I would highly recommend if you spend a lot of time outside.

Jacket is nice looking, Medium is too snug. I am 5' 10" and 158 lbs. Considerably lighter in weight than TNF RedPoint and OR NeoPlume. I have both of the latter jackets in Medium and they fit great and also find them considerably warmer and feel more rugged. Unless you need the light weight and nice look I'd consider the Neoplume.

The best synthetic mid-layer jacket yet. Ac'teryx makes some of the best products and this is one of them. I have used this jacket for about a year and it works well as a mid layer in very cold conditions, and does well as an outerlayer for mid conditions. It is very breathable and can be used for all aerobic activities. It is also very warm considering its amazing weight. No doubt the best synthetic jacket I have ever owned!! I would recommend it to anyone who likes being outdoors when it is cold.

Arc'teryx makes an awesome product!!!
Very cool looking, Excellent quality.
Not sure how warm it would be in extreme conditions because it is so light. I will be using it instead of a heavy Fleece pullover.
May be suitable for an insulating layer as well.
I am so pleased with this jacket that I have ordered other Arc'teryx products and will continue to do so.

Used this jacket in a range of temperatures from around 20degC on its own, to -1degC with base-layer and another mid-layer jacket (while passive; not engaging in any activities) and it kept me warm but not hot. And the great thing is that it packs small (just stuff the entire jacket into one of its sleeves) and is almost weightless! Love the fit too (it's not baggy). Only con is that that hand warmer pocket zippers get stuck at times because the material is so soft.

I live in Eugene, Oregon and I've had this jacket since the beginning of winter, I use it to go to school and go around town. So far it's been great. It's plenty warm enough on cold days as long as I wear thermal underwear. And it's kept me very dry in wet weather. At one point I thought I started feeling a little moisture around my shoulders but I never got wet. I was wearing a backpack at the time so It could have just been my shoulders getting sweaty.

This jacket is absolutely awesome. If you're at all on the fence, bite the bullet and get it. I understand your reservation about buying this jacket because it ain't cheap! I myself had to really hard sell my wife on this thing. However, now that I've had it a few months, I can say it was worth the effort.

Let me just say that this jacket can only act as a stand-alone in the late Spring and early Fall... at least in Colorado. I layer this with two other pieces. A SmartWool Merino Midweight Baselayer beneath it and an REI Taku Shell on top.

Honestly... I don't think it gets much warmer than this setup, ESPECIALLY when you're moving.

The Atom LT does its job as a midlayer to PERFECTION. The synthetic core loft is awesome. SUPER light weight, very condensible and best of all... warm.

This thing is so lo-profile, slim, and form fitting that it does it's job perfectly and looks great out on the town. I usually peel my shell at the bar because this thing is so good looking. I can keep it on inside too because it regulates temperature great!

If you buy this, you will not be disappointed. I will say that it does feel a TAD delicate. Keeping a shell on it abrasive situations like camping is a good idea.

I use this as a bottom layer when hiking, I just used it for the first time on hiking around 20 degree weather and it did the job very well. I never felt cold while I was out for 4 hours.

This jacket will become your go to gear. I will never own a fleece again. This provides the same warmth sans the bite of a stiff headwind. Comfortable into the upper 20s-40s as an outer layer. To my friends to the north, will make a great mid layer.
Breathable side panels allow for heat regulation. Nylon outer is highly water and wind resistant. The feel of the inner layer is also a plus. Haven't taken it hiking yet, but its light weight is remarkable.
