Comments about Suunto X10 Wrist-Top GPS:
I use this GPS almost every workday that puts me out in the field (several hundred square miles/ 3 to 4 days a week). I got this as a backup to a larger GPS I normally carry. I cannot dump the larger GPS just yet but it works great when exploring new areas and want to limit my load. I took me about a week of using it to fully understand how to use it. The book it came with did not even explain how to turn on the back-light so I had to figure it out on my own. Now that I am familiar with it I can't complain, but that first week using it I questioned if it was really worth it.
It is perfect for what I use it for. When I need to learn a new area, I turn on the "activity" mode and get GPS read every 1 second (can be changed to 1 min. or manual). When I am done and get back to a computer with internet access the software lets me upload my track and see exactly where I was on Google Earth.
I used while running a couple of times but do not recommend it for that. It is not as accurate as my Garmin running GPS (which does NOT let me download my track). When used only as watch the charge has lasted weeks. When using the GPS tracking every 1 second the charge lasts about 8-10 hours (still great). My running GPS is not rechargeable and lasts about the same time. My running GPS gets signal in about 30 seconds in my neirborhood. The X10, in the same area about 2 minutes. Out in the desert the X10 gets a signal in about 30 seconds.
If you are a hardcore explorer I would highly recommend. If you just want to see how far you run for fitness tracking get a something else.
