The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Pack Duffel Bag:
This bag has proven to be very useful on my backpacking trips around the world. Works perfectly for it's primary function as protection from airline, bus, and train luggage compartments and conveyor belts.
Because I travel long term with medium sized backpack, I've found it useful as a duffle bag to fill with gear I won't need when going on a day hike or short camping trip while on the road. I can unload stuff I won't use from my main pack into it, then lock it up with a luggage lock and keep it under a hostel bed (if there are no lockers).
Works great as a laundry bag too. I'm a big fan of products with multiple uses. :-)

Comments about REI Pack Duffel Bag:
I bought this product to use for checking my pack on my backpacking trip to Europe this summer. I had read blogs about how to "check a pack" at an airport by tying up straps, etc., but didn't want to risk my new pack getting damaged.
The duffel was perfect. Lightweight and really does fold up into itself (have to lay it out and take a few minutes if you want it to fit well). Really came in handy on my way back from Europe as I had acquired a few extras that wouldn't fit in my carry on and didn't want to pay to check more than 1 bag.
If you're interested in keeping your pack in good shape or holding on to your sleeping bag if you attach it externally (girlfriend's sleeping bag came loose somewhere along the way, luckily came out on the conveyor belt and threw it in my duffel), then this bag is for you.
Definitely suggest this over any of the others.
Only con is that the strap is hard to remove, I just twist-tied it down before checking it at the airport, problem solved.

Comments about REI Pack Duffel Bag:
I bought this bag because of my expedition in Costa Rica and had to travel via airplane. I've heard horror stories of having to check in backpack and peoples straps and hip belts being ripped. This bag easily fits my 79 Liter pack. It wouldn't really take a pack much over 80-85L.
Just set your pack down and pull the duffle over the top of the pack, flip then zip. Simple, lightweight and effective. It stores in its own pocket also. Very happy and would definitely recommend to any backpackers who are traveling via airplane.

Comments about REI Pack Duffel Bag:
I needed to fly with my 85L backpack and I had heard horror stories of buckles breaking, frames busting, and other things that can happen while flying with a backpack. After thinking of how airports throw luggage around I decided I'd rather be safe than sorry.
I was able to fit my loaded backpack and a few other things into the duffle. The strap isn't padded but it gets the job done. The zipper is heavy duty and zips well. The best part of the duffle is that it stuffs into a small zippered pack that you can store away in the bottom of your bag until you need to use it again.
If you are planning on flying with your backpacking pack spend the extra money and get this duffle to protect it!

Comments about REI Pack Duffel Bag:
Offers solid protection against the elements (or conveyor belts, etc.) and security due to the lockable zippers.
However, due to the difficulty in which is stows I find my self rolling it up and putting it on the top of my pack...especially when trying to make connections. Once taken out of the original packing, it is hard to repack. Also, contains no clip or belt trap as to secure it to the outside of your pack.
With all of that being said... I lost mine somewhere in Poland, and once I got back bought another one. It is great to have the piece of mind that comes with added protection and security that comes with this bag.

Comments about REI Pack Duffel Bag:
We bought this duffel for each of our packs when we lived in Chicago and used to fly out to the Grand Canyon to hike. Good size for a 65 liter pack, and tough enough to stand up to luggage handler abuse. Still need to fasten down pack straps, and we use external straps to keep the duffel from hanging loose. But the combination works perfectly.

Comments about REI Pack Duffel Bag:
I bought the REI Pack Duffel about a year ago. Since making the purchase, I have used it on about 6-7 flights including a trip to Hawaii that required multiple connections. The Duffel has held up better than expected. For the price, I really thought it was a worthy investment if it only made it on 2-3 trips, so it exceeded my expectation. I bought it to use with my Arc'teryx Bora 65 pack, which is just over 4200cu in. The duffel provided enough space for the pack and I was able to throw a pair of size 14 Merrell hiking boots in loose, and it worked great. For the reviewer that complained about the lack of a clip, I added a Nite Ize S-biner to the bag that it zips inside and clipped it on the outside of my backpack when transporting it through the airport and it worked great. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has to transport a pack on an airplane. There are pricier solutions out there, but it really isn't necessary.

Comments about REI Pack Duffel Bag:
I was looking for a bag so we could check our Deuter Kid Comfort III baby carrier on flights to and from Kauai and it just fits in this. Plenty of room left over for all of my clothes, etc. Just what I was looking for and at a great price too.

Used this duffel to transport a large backpack full of gear on a flight to Europe. It worked flawlessly. [...]Best duffel for the largest backpacks. Perfect for transporting backpacks without damage. Shoulder strap needs padding, though.

Comments about REI Pack Duffel Bag:
I've used this reasonably priced duffel on a couple cross-country plane trips and it's worked beautifully so far. It seems very durable, and I like that there's a loop to anchor the zipper to with a luggage lock or twist-tie. Having the zipper on an end panel makes it pretty easy to drop the pack in and go. Depending on the size of your pack (mine is 75L), you might have room for "extras" inside the duffel--on one trip, I ended up tossing in a messenger bag full of souvenirs that I didn't feel like carrying on.
Of course, it adds a little weight to my gear, but I think it's well worth it for a layer of protection around my beloved pack. It's a bit tricky to cram back into its pouch, but really not bad once you figure out a folding/rolling routine. I do wish that the shoulder strap could be detached conveniently (I always worry about loose straps getting caught in a conveyor or something), but I was assured by an airline agent that it's fine to leave on.
Overall, I totally recommend it, and plan to use it every time I need to trust my pack to checked baggage.
